Is The Woke Political Agenda An Inversion of Totalitarianism?

From an historical perspective, political status among nations often shifts with the passage of time. Countries that were once democratic transition to authoritarian governance, while others take a reverse pattern.

Historians speak of such transformations in terms of “left against right,” liberalism versus nationalism, or capitalism versus communism. In speaking of unprecedented political developments, the term “post-modern” is often applied.

Within this context, there are few western nations more deserving of analysis than Canada. It is, of course, the very reason why media never do so. Consider how often CBC, CTV, Globe & Mail or Toronto Star view our rapidly-changing society from an historical context.

It is a brazen thing to go to other countries like some John the Baptist for the democracies, shortly after having trampled all over the rights of those involved in a largely peaceful democratic protest.

Let me make a plain, direct statement: The trucker protest was not an attempted coup. It was not a rebellion. It was not an assault on Canada’s democracy. It was none of those things.

The convoy protest was strong and present, but it was unthreatening and largely non-violent. It was superbly Canadian. It should not be slandered.

Seven years after vowing not to purchase F-35 jets, the Liberals are now buying them

Seven years after vowing never to replace Canada’s aging fighter jet fleet with F-35s, the Trudeau Liberals are now planning to purchase 88 of them.

Defence Minister Anita Anand announced the news early Monday afternoon, confirming the government’s intentions to sign final purchase contracts with manufacturer Lockheed-Martin later this year.

“A new fleet of state-of-the-art fighter jets is essential for Canada’s security, sovereignty and ability to defend itself,” she said.

Shutting Canadian Pipeline Would Cost US Consumers $23.7 Billion More In Fuel Costs: Report

A recently published analysis by a consumer advocacy nonprofit maintains that shutting a 4.5-mile section of a nearly 70-year-old pipeline that spans the Great Lakes from Wisconsin to Ontario would impose $23.7 billion in higher fuel costs on families and businesses in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Consumer Energy Alliance’s (CEA) 14-page report estimates that closing Canada-based Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline in the Straits of Mackinac, which connect Lake Michigan to Lake Huron, would spur regional fuel price spikes of 9.47 to 11.66 percent “independent of any other market conditions, such as the surge in fuel prices observed over the past 12 months that are tied to international oil markets and logistical challenges caused by the pandemic.”

Postponing the federal carbon tax hike is an inflation break that Ottawa could and should deliver

Recent calls for Ottawa to scrap its planned April 1 carbon price hike could easily be viewed as opportunistic attempts from opponents to turn back the clock on government fossil-fuel measures. Or cynical appeals to segments of the electorate who question the value of carbon taxation. Or self-serving lobbying from business interests who have a knee-jerk objection to any tax increase.

Which all could be true. But delaying the increase could also be a very good, very practical idea – one that even the supporters of the federal carbon tax should embrace.

HonestReporting Canada is pleased to share that, subsequent to a complaint we lodged with CBC last year regarding an anti-Israel segment that their radio program “Unforked” broadcast, Ombudsman Jack Nagler upheld our complaint and recognized that the episode violated their Journalistic Standards and Practices.

In a report dated March 23, 2022, Ombudsman Nagler responded to our complaint about a July 5 episode of “Unforked,” a show which describes itself as “Picking apart the food that we eat to reveal the culture and politics baked into it,” which covered the topic of “gastronationalism” and hummus, the beloved chickpea dish enjoyed by peoples throughout the Middle East and around the world.

Do we really need to be funding the CBC’s diversity?

Liberals expected to launch negotiations to buy F-35 fighter jets: CP sources

The Liberal government is expected to announce today that it will enter into final negotiations on purchasing the F-35 fighter jet.

Government and industry sources have told The Canadian Press the negotiations with manufacturer Lockheed Martin will be announced at a news conference this afternoon.

The sources spoke on the condition they not be named because they were not authorized to comment publicly.

We’ll see. It’s not yet a commitment and they can easily stretch this out a few years more.

Canada’s “banned” target rifles not a boon for Ukraine

Mackay suggested Justin Trudeau gather up all the “‘military-style assault rifles’ banned by our government in May 2020” and send them to Ukraine. He goes on to suggest a tax credit scheme as incentive for law-abiding Canadian sport and recreational shooters to hand over their legally-owned property, worth thousands of dollars. I’m not going to write about the wrong-headedness and fundamental injustice of this “ban,” which hasn’t actually happened, hasn’t prevented a single shooting, or saved a single life. Instead, I want to focus on the futility of the gesture as an attempt to help Ukraine.
