‘We’re still getting what we need’ from Canada, Trump’s trade lead tells U.S. media
There’s “no urgency” to strike a trade deal with Canada, according to Washington’s trade representative, as Canada continues to supply a variety of key exports to the U.S.
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer made the comments to American network CNBC Friday morning when asked about progress toward a deal with Canada. He said U.S. President Donald Trump is “comfortable” with the present situation as the two countries scrap through a protracted trade war.
“Our trade policy is a global policy,” he said. “It applies to Canada, China, the U.K., Brazil, all kinds of countries,” he said.

OTTAWA — A Canadian has been charged in the United States with three counts of voter fraud for casting ballots in three elections without being a U.S. citizen.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Florida says Christiane Vinette Young voted in the 2024 and 2022 general elections and the 2022 primary elections, despite knowing she was not a U.S. citizen.
Russian plot uncovered to ‘infiltrate US Secret Service’
An alleged Russian plot to infiltrate the US Secret Service has been uncovered.
Lee Reiber, the chief executive of Oxygen Forensics, is accused of concealing his company’s Russian links before it was taken on by the US Secret Service.
He allegedly told the US government that Russia had no role in the company. However, five Russian nationals secretly owned and controlled it, prosecutors said, while its software was developed and managed in Russia, according to the US department of justice (DoJ).

Volkswagen delays production at Ontario electric vehicle battery plant until 2029
The opening of a massive Volkswagen electric vehicle battery plant in southwestern Ontario has been pushed back two years until 2029.
PowerCo Canada, a subsidiary of the German automaker, says it is delaying production at the $7-billion factory in St. Thomas, Ont., in order to align the project’s timeline and product strategy with evolving market demand, technological advancements and the Volkswagen Group’s long-term strategy.
It says the later opening date will allow for next-generation battery technology while retaining the flexibility to scale over time as market conditions evolve.
