U.S. declines to extend CUSMA trade deal with Canada, Mexico
U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration is opting not to extend its trade agreement with Canada and Mexico, triggering what are expected to be tough negotiations on amending the deal.
The announcement by U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer followed a virtual meeting on Wednesday with Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc and Mexico’s economy secretary, Marcelo Ebrard.
The U.S. announcement does not kill CUSMA, which does not expire until 2036.

Artificial intelligence researcher Cameron Berg chugged his drink when he spotted OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman at a party in 2024, and hustled over to ask the CEO whether he thought the emerging technology could be conscious or self-aware.
Few tech executives talked about the possibility in public at the time. But to Berg’s surprise, Altman said that OpenAI had started discussing how to detect consciousness in AI systems.
“It was very obviously something that he’s thought about,” said Berg, who has launched a nonprofit organization to work on methods to assess AI consciousness.
U.S. Republicans are casting the Canadian border as a rising security threat
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. administration and its congressional allies are continuing to make the case that America’s northern border is facing a rising national security threat.
Two weeks ago, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said during a CSIS panel discussion in Washington that pressure on Mexican cartels at the southern border was pushing criminal operations and fentanyl trafficking northward toward the Canadian border. Drug researchers notably questioned the claim.
I don’t believe anything our politicians say on border security, transnational drug crime etc.
Frankly I suspect our institutions have been compromised by the CCP and the cartels.

Funaro, who relies on a wheelchair and breathes with a ventilator, has taken the neighbors to court, his family spending thousands of dollars on a legal battle that has lasted two years and counting.
“If it’s too hot, disabled people get dehydrated, and it’s difficult to breathe,” said Funaro.

Criminally biased Officers in Henry Nowak case face gross misconduct investigation
Two police officers are being investigated for potential gross misconduct following the case of Henry Nowak, who was handcuffed and arrested as he lay dying, the police watchdog has said.
Nowak, 18, was fatally stabbed by Vickrum Digwa in December 2025. He was jailed for life on in June, with a minimum term of 21 years.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said evidence suggested the two officers who arrived first may have breached professional standards of duties and responsibilities, use of force, and discreditable conduct.

US supreme court agrees to hear challenges to assault-weapons bans
The US supreme court will consider whether bans on semi-automatic rifles, often called assault weapons, violate the second amendment.
The justices said on Tuesday they will hear appeals challenging bans on the AR-15 and similar semi-automatic firearms in Connecticut and the Chicago area.
Similar laws are in place in about a dozen states, covering major cities like New York, Los Angeles and Washington DC. Congress allowed a national assault weapons ban to expire in 2004, but Democrats have supported renewing it in response to a series of mass shootings. States have also continued to pass their own laws, including recent measures in Virginia and Rhode Island.
Carney says Trudeau-era climate plan was ‘too expensive’ and ‘divisive’
Prime Minister Mark Carney echoed critics of the previous Liberal government’s climate plan in a video posted on Tuesday, saying the plan he inherited was too expensive and divisive.
“In my judgment, that plan was not sustainable over the long term,” Carney said in his second “Forward Guidance” video. “It would have been too expensive for Canadians. Canadians who are already struggling with affordability.”
He later says the plan “would have been too divisive for our country” and was “an open opportunity for those people who wish to pull Canada apart both at home and abroad.”
