No city better captures the contradictions of twenty-first-century America than San Francisco. The capital of the AI revolution is also a place where open drug use, mental illness, and public disorder have become banal features of daily life. Increasingly, the two realities seem to be bleeding into each other.
Welcome to Zombieland.
But this is no movie being filmed in Toronto or about the city.
This is Toronto. It’s a nonfiction story. These fellow Torontonians swaying around in a perpetual high state or crouched head down with fentanyl in their systems are not acting.

Last March, a makeshift drug factory exploded next to Los Angeles resident Juan Galicia’s craftsman-style home, built in 1910. The flames spread to his gas line, setting off a fire that destroyed the house and killed his three dogs — he tearfully shows me their picture. Had the accident happened an hour earlier, it would have killed one of his sons, as well. “I lived here 18 years and now it’s gone,” the 55-year-old father, an immigrant from El Salvador, tells me. The empty lot next door, he says, was occupied by homeless squatters who cooked methamphetamine there. “People occupy a place and the city does nothing,” he says.
Every day, thousands of Los Angelenos take a deep breath, step out of their houses, and plunge themselves into a transit experience straight out of Mad Max. The city’s buses have become rolling homeless shelters, replete with drugs and feces. Its trains are home to murder and mayhem. As Daquan, a daily rider who works near the North Hollywood station told us, “You could kill somebody down there and just get away with it.”
The people running LA are the same types running Toronto. This city will not get better. Ever.
Toronto is in the same death spiral we have observed in Democrat run cities throughout the USA.
The Democratic primaries in New York City just delivered a stark verdict: the traditional Democratic Party, rooted in pragmatic governance, neighborhood loyalty, and a shared commitment to American institutions, is over. The victories of Democratic Socialists of America-backed candidates instead mark the ascendance of the far left.
A 35-year-old woman was found wasting away to skin and bones on Los Angeles’ Skid Row, barely conscious on the floor of a fetid tent, nodding in and out amid the fentanyl haze. She died on June 17, 2026, in a hospital bed of meningitis and sepsis triggered by terminal malnutrition. Her body surrendered.
The woman was Daveigh Chase, the voice of Disney’s beloved Lilo in “Lilo & Stitch,” and the nightmare Samara crawling from the well in “The Ring.” She had millions in unclaimed residuals from her child stardom sitting untouched in accounts because she was “too far gone” on heroin and fentanyl.
How?
By any measure, California is a failed state—and a national embarrassment.
Taxes? It has the highest income and gas taxes in the nation.
Roads? A Reason Foundation survey ranks it 49th among the states.
Mass flight? Between 250,000 and 350,000 more Californians leave the state than move in each year. Housing, gas, insurance, and electricity prices? The highest in the continental U.S.
Sounds like Canada under the Liberals.
The trial of a 29-year-old charged with sparking a wildfire that went on to become the deadly Palisades inferno, the most destructive blaze in Los Angeles history, is set to begin on Monday in a case that has gripped the city as Angelenos seek answers more than a year after the deadly fire.
Jonathan Rinderknecht, an occasional Uber driver, is accused of starting a small blaze on New Year’s Day 2025, later dubbed the Lachman fire. Although the Los Angeles fire department extinguished the fire on 2 January, it reignited five days later due to high winds and tinderbox conditions after burning undetected deep in the dry hillsides.
It’s 3 a.m. in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, and an all-night, drug-fueled party has been raging for hours. The sidewalks are littered with trash and human feces. Addicts huddle in the alleys, inhaling fentanyl fumes through plastic straws; others are slumped over, barely conscious. Makeshift homeless encampments line block after block.
Dealers are everywhere. On the street corners, groups of men dressed in dark hoodies and face masks sell drugs. These are the “Hondos,” migrants from Honduras who have taken over the San Francisco drug trade. Night after night, they turn the Tenderloin into a lucrative, open-air drug market.
EARLIER this month, Reform UK, Nigel Farage’s latest political incarnation, proposed one of the sharpest political ideas of modern times: to site new migrant detention centres in areas that vote heavily for the Green Party, which famously advocates for a ‘world without borders’. Likely locations include the historic Green Party stronghold of Brighton, but after last week’s local election success the list could easily extend to newly-won councils in Norwich, Hastings, as well as the London boroughs of Hackney, Lewisham and Waltham Forest. This is nothing short of a masterstroke in political simplicity: holding people to the professed beliefs they routinely foist on others.
It’s easy to understand why thousands of Pacific Palisades fire victims are shocked — and skeptical — about why their former homes have suddenly reappeared in online maps. The timing comes right before a hard-fought mayoral race in which the complete incompetence displayed by the Los Angeles mayor and her staff before and after this fire is the front-and-center issue. Was this Silicon Valley’s spiff to fellow traveler Karen Bass?
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie has revived a benefit program once lauded as a step toward “reparations” for black San Franciscans. Known as the Dream Keeper Initiative, the relaunched program will grant $36 million to “community-serving organizations,” including some that have offered “Afri-centric” mental-health services, African ancestry DNA testing, and free doulas for “African American birthing people.”
Supporters say the initiative will deliver racial “equity”; a civil rights lawyer says the program may violate federal law.
San Francisco’s mayor has signed an ordinance creating a reparations fund for black residents while admitting the cash-strapped city does not have any money to fund it.
The city’s board of supervisors voted 11-0 to establish the fund, though no dollar figure was attached. Mayor Daniel Lurie said he signed the legislation to recognize years of effort by an advisory committee and others to create the fund.
California was never a “slave state”.
The past year has seen heartbreaking tragedy and bloodshed in Toronto.
The shooting of eight-year-old JahVai Roy, struck by a stray bullet in the perceived safety of his home this summer. The stabbing death of grandmother Shahnaz Pestonji, 71, as she loaded groceries into her car on a Thursday morning in July.
But despite such incidents that have seized the public’s attention, 2025 is in fact on track to hit a 50-year low for the number of homicides committed in a single year in the city.
Perception is influenced by quality of life issues and Toronto fails on many fronts.
The transit system is sketchy and used as an insane asylum/homeless shelter while the police are viewed as compromised by a murder cult.
Toronto’s mayor is widely regarded as the dim witted racist puppet of special interests that hate Canada.
Thanks to the federal government’s deliberately harmful mass immigration policy Toronto now resembles a 3rd World Dumpster fire where over 40% of foodbank users are non-citizens.
All of this adds up.
The 12-year-old boy is described as a youth. But a 12-year-old is still a child.
Typically, if attending school, in Grade 7.
But this 12-year-old is charged with second-degree murder and five violent robberies. And we don’t really know how to profile them, apart from the Youth Criminal Justice Act, which deems that anyone aged 12 or older can be charged with a criminal offence.
That child is the weaponized product of the Liberal-left’s war on western civilization.
