Over the weekend in Kelowna, B.C., a young girl was seen outside of a crowded Costco holding a protest sign reading, “Please tell me why Sidney Crosby can play and I can’t.” The sign was a reference to new COVID-19 restrictions that prevent members of the public from playing hockey outside, due to limits on gatherings. Meanwhile, professional NHL players will be allowed to play through the 2020 season.
With Ontario facing dangerously high rates of COVID-19 that could result in many more deaths, Premier Doug Ford declared a second provincial emergency Tuesday and announced a slate of new restrictions in an effort to bring the virus under control.
Ontario health officials have said that without a “significant reductions in contacts,” the health system will be overwhelmed amid a rising number of COVID-19 infections and mortality will exceed the first wave totals, even with their vaccination efforts.
“This will keep people on both sides of the border safe,” Trudeau stated during today’s COVID-19 address.
The federal Conservatives decided to no longer engage with Rebel News, hours after an e-mailed interview exchange between Leader Erin O’Toole’s staff and the far-right outlet was published.
Mr. O’Toole’s office participated in an interview with Rebel News on Mr. O’Toole’s behalf. After it was published on Monday, Mr. O’Toole’s office said it would no longer respond to the controversial group and the Leader would not do interviews with them either.

If I told you a year ago that Canadians would not only be accepting of government-mandated curfews, but downright supportive of them, I would have seemed like a crazy person.

Winnipeg MP Jim Carr is returning as a full cabinet member after stepping aside for cancer treatments.

The Jewish Community Council of Montreal, the Jewish Hasidic Council of Quebec and several other ultra-Orthodox Jewish congregations have sent a lawyer’s letter to the Legault government urging it to reconsider its ban on gatherings in synagogues and other places of worship during the latest pandemic lockdown.
The letter, prepared by the law firm of Dunton Rainville and delivered to the provincial government last Friday, warns that failure to rescind the ban will see their clients “regretfully” seek redress before the courts.
The Trudeau government is investigating whether the extreme right-wing group the Proud Boys should be declared a terrorist organization. That is a legal decision. But there’s politics in it as well. The Liberals are trying to discomfit Erin O’Toole’s Conservatives by linking the party to extremists.
On the Proud Boys, “officials will be analyzing useful intelligence and evidence as that comes forward,” Mary-Liz Power, press secretary to Public Safety Minister Bill Blair, said in a statement on Sunday.
“When this work is completed, it will form the basis of the decision whether or not the Proud Boys or any other ideologically motivated violent extremist organization reaches the legal threshold for listing.”
While stopping short of demanding that Chinese propaganda outlets like Xinhua and the People’s Daily be required to register as foreign agents, O’Toole expressed his disappointment that they have been accredited by Ottawa’s Parliamentary Press Gallery.
“At the end of the day, politicians have an obligation to the public to tell them the straight goods. And if they have a disagreement, that’s fine. But let’s be serious and let’s be real about the facts,” said Wilkinson.
