Ontario reports 1,371 new covid cases… Tam, Hajdu endorse Astra Zeneca jab so now you know to steer clear of it

Ontario is reporting 1,371 cases of #COVID19 and over 64,600 tests completed. Locally, there are 371 new cases in Toronto, 225 in Peel, 111 in York Region and 109 in Hamilton.

As of 8:00 p.m. yesterday, 1,062,910 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.

Tam, Hajdu confident in Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine

OTTAWA — Canada’s top doctor and federal health minister say they see no reason to halt the use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in Canada, as other countries have done citing blood clots following inoculations.

Speaking to Evan Solomon, host of CTV News Channel’s Power Play, on Thursday, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam said that because Canada hasn’t been supplied with the same batch of AstraZeneca vaccines as the several European countries who have suspended its use, there’s no need to follow suit.

If they’re endorsing it I’m staying away.

Liberals’ New Hate Speech Bill Could Lead to Revival of Controversial Law

Canada’s new hate speech legislation soon to be tabled by the federal government may include a new statutory definition of hate and could revive a controversial law previously repealed for infringing on rights.

Repealed in 2013, Section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act had made it an act of discrimination to communicate anything online or by telephone that was “likely to expose” a person to hatred or contempt, as long as they were “identifiable on the basis of a prohibited ground of discrimination.”

The controversial law was widely criticized for being overly broad with weak safeguards to protect speech rights.
