Breaching the Capitol in Washington, D.C. will be this generation-defining moment for the United States of America. Like in the aftermath of 9/11, many stupid policy decisions will be made. Liberty will be lost.
Unfortunately, the killing of school teacher Samuel Paty in an Islamist attack last year has led many French teachers to avoid discussing issues that might offend their Muslim pupils.
A survey on this subject conducted last month makes for chilling reading. It shows that nearly half of French secondary school teachers avoid or downplay topics such as sexuality, the Holocaust and evolution in order to avoid provoking the anger and hostility of their Muslim students.

The U.S. Capitol Police officer who fired the fatal bullet that killed Ashli Babbit during Wednesday’s riot at the Capitol Building was placed on administrative leave, the department said Thursday.
The officer, who has not been identified, will have their police powers suspended while awaiting the outcome of a joint investigation between the Capitol Police and Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department.
After Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol Building in response to the certification of the Electoral College vote, people on Twitter began taking a second look at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s December tweet explaining why people protest.

Twitter erupted in calls for retribution on Wednesday, as accounts bearing the social network’s stamp of approval — the blue “verified” checkmark — called for Trump supporters to be shot.
CNN’s Jake Tapper, Dana Bash, and others were aghast Wednesday as the nation watched thousands of President Trump’s supporters storm the Capitol, breaching the premises, and rioting within the building. Aside from all the violence, though, they were otherwise peaceful!
Finally, the media understand how dangerous mobs can be. Good timing.
To be sure, Wednesday’s events were grotesque. This is how liberals are expected to behave — such as when all of Washington, D.C., was boarded up in anticipation of how the locals would react if Trump won reelection. Republican-leaning precincts didn’t have to do any boarding up because that’s not expected of them.

Outgoing U.S. President Donald Trump’s stores were taken off-line by Shopify Inc. on Thursday, as the country grappled with the role he played in inciting violence that erupted at the Capitol building the day before.
The Ottawa-based e-commerce company said that it terminated stores affiliated with Trump because his actions contravened Shopify’s policies.
“Shopify does not tolerate actions that incite violence,” the company said in a statement.

Nearly 21% of Shopify stores pose a risk to their customers, according to analysis by e-commerce authentication service Fakespot.
Shopify provides the technology backbone for businesses to set up a store and sell their products online.
The company has become valuable to small businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic, because its services are cheap and easy to set up.
The world’s reaction to the assault on the Capitol building by pro-Trump mobs ranged from delight to horror, depending on their views of America. Those who see the U.S. as an enemy, like Iran and China, found a measure of schadenfreude in the incident after the United States had spent decades trashing their government’s repression.
The Boston Massacre was a deadly riot that occurred on March 5, 1770, on King Street in Boston. It began as a street brawl between American colonists and a lone British soldier, but quickly escalated to a chaotic, bloody slaughter. The conflict energized anti-British sentiment and paved the way for the American Revolution.

A former Liberal Party president and a former longtime Liberal MP say the party has veered too far to the left and alienated many veteran Liberals.
Six-term Liberal MP Dan McTeague sat in the House of Commons representing southern Ontario ridings from 1993 to 2011, and was active in the party going back to the late 1970s.
But McTeague says that his former party is now Liberal in name only.
