The meeting between Donald Trump and then Prince Charles was scheduled to last 15 minutes. It stretched to an hour and a half.
Trump could barely get a word in edgeways. Charles did “most of the talking,” the president told a TV interviewer the day after they met.

The so-called buy Canadian movement gained momentum when Donald Trump suggested, half in jest but with a tone of menace, that Canada could one day become America’s “51st state.”
The remark struck a nerve. Canadians reacted with indignation and pride, choosing to affirm their sovereignty not only through political rhetoric but also through their wallets. Many began rejecting U.S. products and looking more deliberately at what it meant to support Canadian ones.

People who live on Vancouver Island and some smaller neighbouring islands have been hotly debating an application made by an American non-profit to use B.C. Crown land for campsites while on kayak trips.
National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), which runs outdoor expeditions around the world, is applying to renew — and expand — a licence the province says it has held since 2006.
The application is to permit NOLS to camp at 77 locations while leading an eight- to 10-person kayak trip from Washington to Alaska next summer. Most of the locations, which range from 0.3-4.6 hectares, are on and around Vancouver Island.

Canadians in North see U.S. as Arctic threat on par with Russia: survey
Between Russia’s military buildup in the North and China’s growing presence in the Bering Strait near Alaska, it’s no surprise Canadians in the three territories are increasingly concerned about Arctic security. But in a striking twist, a new survey found more Northerners named the United States as the most serious threat to the Canadian Arctic, on par with Russia.
Thirty-seven per cent of respondents identified the U.S. as the top threat, compared with 35 per cent who said Russia, and 17 per cent who chose China.

Joe Biden’s former aides have attacked Kamala Harris saying she “knows nothing” and was “out of her depth” after she laid into the former president.
The row was triggered by the publication of an excerpt from Ms Harris’s memoir 107 Days, in which she branded Mr Biden’s second presidential run “recklessness”.

Canadians made three million fewer trips to the U.S. during summer travel boycott
Canadian travellers held strong to their boycott of travel to the United States right to the end of the summer, blowing a sizable hole in the U.S. tourism sector, the latest numbers from Statistics Canada show.
In August, the number of Canadian residents returning by vehicle from the U.S. plunged 33.9 per cent year-over-year to 1.9 million, while the number of residents returning by air fell 25.4 per cent to 423,000, the agency said.
My suspicion is that while the boycott certainly accounts for the majority of the decrease in trips the fact that Canadians are realizing they’re much more poor than they knew also plays a big role.
