Ukraine Accused of Street Conscriptions as Deaths, Ethnic Tensions Rise

There is no shortage of videos on social media apparently showing men being taken off the streets of Ukraine—some while walking their dog, or even out with their wife and children—to be forcibly conscripted into the military.
Reports are even making it into Western mainstream media publications, something that may force European leaders to take notice.
WTF?
Why am I not surprised? @fancypants_s https://t.co/jvRh1oTUjU

Crown Files Appeal Against Sentencing, Acquittals of Freedom Convoy Organizers Lich and Barber

The Crown has filed appeals against the sentencing and acquittals of intimidation charges for Freedom Convoy organizers Tamara Lich and Chris Barber.
The Crown is seeking to replace Barber’s 18-month conditional sentence with a harsher penalty, and has asked the Court of Appeal to either enter a conviction on the intimidation charge or order a new trial on that count, according to a release from the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF).
Germany cracks down on ‘TikTok Islamism’

The German Interior Ministry on Wednesday banned the group “Muslim Interaktiv,” which calls for a worldwide caliphate and rejects the democratic order enshrined in Germany’s constitution, the Basic Law.
A ministry press release described the association “Muslim Interaktiv” as “opposed to the constitutional order and the idea of international understanding,” adding: “The association will be dissolved. The assets of Muslim Interaktiv will be confiscated.”
The association views the Muslim community in Germany as a minority that is discriminated against and ostracized from society. Founded in 2020, authorities believe the group is affiliated with the Hizb ut-Tahrir (HuT) organization, which was banned in 2003 after promoting violence and the killing of Jewish people.
Budget offers mass amnesty for asylum-seekers

As part of the federal budget’s promise to bring immigration “under control,” it is offering a one-time mass amnesty to some of the hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers who have entered Canada in recent years, including by illegally crossing the U.S. border.
Starting in 2026, the budget announces that Canada will pursue a “one-time” $120.4 million program to fast-track “eligible protected persons” into permanent residency.
Liberals target Farm Credit Canada for being ‘too white’

The federal government is taking aim at Farm Credit Canada (FCC), saying the Crown-owned lender’s portfolio is dominated by “older white men” and needs to better reflect the country’s diversity.
In a budget notice, the Department of Finance said cabinet will amend the Farm Credit Canada Act to require regular legislative reviews ensuring the bank’s loans align with the “changing needs” of the agriculture sector.
The Republican Party Deserves Their Bad Election Night

Brutal election night for Republicans, though the ugliness mostly happened in blue states and probably has limited meaning over the long term. A long series of “however” paragraphs follow.
Abigail Spanberger is a harbinger, East Coast Katie Hobbs: bland, empty, relentlessly platitudinous, tactically cowardly. The fact that she won comfortably tells you what’s going to win comfortably. Listen if you must to her NPR interview this morning, where she says literally nothing for seven minutes.
Does the Democrats’ Chaos Strategy Work?

We can draw a few conclusions from an off-year election, when iconic races in blue states went, as expected, overwhelmingly Democratic.
Nevertheless, there is only a year left before the midterms. So Republicans must react to even these paltry results.
Canadian Law Firm That Represented Buddhist Landholders Became a Pipeline of Lawyers Into Regulator That Investigated Them

OTTAWA — When the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission opened an investigation into Buddhist landholdings between 2016 and 2018, few could have imagined that, nearly a decade later, its quietly shelved probe would raise serious questions about whether the regulator itself had become entangled in the very network of interests it was meant to police.
Twice as many Right-wing extremists as Islamists referred to Prevent
“Extreme Right-wing” concerns accounted for twice as many Prevent referrals as Islamist extremism last year, according to new data from the Home Office. Of the 8,778 referrals made to the counter-terrorism scheme in the year ending 31 March 2025, 21% (1,798) of referrals were about Right-wing extremism, while 10% (870), concerned Islamism.
Overall referrals to Prevent were up 27% compared with the previous year’s total of 6,922, and constitute the highest number of referrals recorded in a single year since the Home Office began recording in April 2015.
Prevent is as politicized as Brit policing.

Aaron Pete: Criminalizing ‘downplaying’ residential schools won’t help anyone
When NDP MP Leah Gazan re-introduced her bill to make “residential school denialism” a criminal offence, she did so from a place of compassion. Her intent was to protect survivors from cruelty disguised as skepticism—to stop people from mocking the dead or trivializing one of Canada’s darkest chapters. But the debate her proposal has reignited goes beyond one bill. It cuts to the core of how a democracy handles truth, grief, and dissent.
She’s a Pretendian!
Here is a story about Leah Gazan that you certainly won’t read or hear about coming from CBC @brodiefenlon @carter_c @stirlingmg https://t.co/NgVbvFpJEy https://t.co/ISjdrKtj3p pic.twitter.com/aLr9oBfV7J

Southport killer bought knives with money his father paid him for showering

Axel Rudakubana bought knives with money his father paid him to shower, an inquiry into the Southport killings has heard.
Alphonse Rudakubana admitted he would pay his son £40 for every three showers he took as a “reward” for washing himself, something he said happened at least twice.
He told the public inquiry into the murder of three girls that he and Axel Rudakubana’s mother would also “give him money” when their son asked.
