Carney says ‘work still to be done,’ while Trump touts a deal and pauses tariffs

OTTAWA – Just under two hours before a 50 per-cent tariff was scheduled to hit Canadian goods, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Canada and the U.S. have reached a tentative deal and would hit pause on the new levies for a three-day period.

… In a statement to reporters late on Tuesday, Prime Minister Mark Carney said that “substantial progress has been made, although there is important work still to be done.”

… “The deal will include comprehensive market access for all American goods, economic security commitments, digital trade alignment, and many important provisions that will continue to protect our market and American workers, along with our Canadian partners,” according to a statement on social media by the office of the USTR.

No details as yet. Hints the deal may include 3rd Rail Dairy and Automotive.

CHARLEBOIS: Canada is still losing restaurants — not as fast as we predicted

Earlier this year, the Agri-Food Analytics Lab forecast that Canada could lose approximately 4,000 restaurants on a net basis in 2026. The prediction attracted considerable attention because it captured the financial anxiety spreading across the industry.

At mid-year, however, the evidence suggests that the forecast was likely too pessimistic.

‘Stopping AfD’: German Left-Wing Celebrities and NGOs Team Up Against Weidel’s Party

‘Stopping AfD’: German Left-Wing Celebrities and NGOs Team Up Against Weidel’s Party

German actors, sports personalities, business leaders, and NGOs are teaming up to try to dissuade voters in Saxony-Anhalt from voting for Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), to prevent the party from winning an outright majority in the state election on September 6.

The campaign, titled Wahre Heimatliebe ist (“True love of home is”), features actors including Sandra Hüller, Christian Friedel, Anna Schudt, and Max Simonischek, alongside figures from academia, business, and sport.

The organisers say an AfD majority and an AfD-led state government would have “serious social and economic consequences” for Saxony-Anhalt and beyond. They are calling on voters to participate in the election and support “democratic parties.”

Tasha Kheiriddin: Pierre Poilievre has a path to survival. He should take it

As Canada waits to see whether Prime Minister Mark Carney can strike a trade deal with Donald Trump — or whether the U.S. president will slap 50 per cent tariffs on $20 billion worth of our goods Wednesday — another deadline is looming: When will the Conservative party figure out a path back to power?

Because right now, it is going nowhere.

CDC Recognizes Detransitioning As Official Condition, Opens Door To Medical Treatment For Mutilated Kids

CDC Recognizes Detransitioning As Official Condition, Opens Door To Medical Treatment For Mutilated Kids

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in October will start recognizing detransitioning — reversing gender “transition” mutilation — in official diagnosis codes for purposes of insurance billing and data collection.

Vice President J.D. Vance last week called for the jailing of medical professionals fraudulently using medical billing codes to get insurance to cover the castration and genital mutilation of children claiming to be “transgender.” But on the other side of that issue are the thousands of young people who were brutally maimed by predator doctors and have little recourse to try to reverse some of the interventions.

If You Hate America, Why Don’t You Leave?

If You Hate America, Why Don’t You Leave?

For years, I’ve tried to understand the growing rancor between the Muslim community and the American population. It seems there is never a time when the two groups have lived comfortably with each other. And in these times of Muslims also becoming part of our political community, of the strife in the Middle East, and the ongoing conflicts in Muslim-majority countries, there is no sign of relationships improving.

Nearly half of new Canadian citizenship certificates are being issued to Americans

The number of Americans seeking Canadian citizenship certificates continues to surge, with new data suggesting almost half of people approved for proof of citizenship since December were born in the U.S.

A recent update on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website reads: “Applications for Canadian citizenship certificates are rising rapidly across the globe, driven in large part by thousands of requests submitted from the United States. Following a change in the law, the volume of submissions has grown substantially, putting pressure on federal processing streams.”

Eco-lunacy is the real menace to humanity

Eco-lunacy is the real menace to humanity

You know you’re living in tyrannical times when an authority figure demands you look into the fire and renounce your heresy. Heatwave season has been awash with such neo-medievalism. In full priestly mode, London mayor Sadiq Khan said our ‘burning summer is proof’ that climate-change deniers ‘aren’t just delusional, they’re deadly’. This suffocating heat is a ‘dramatic warning’ sent by ‘nature’ to disprove the deniers’ ‘bullshit based on lies’, said Teresa Ribera of the European Commission. Hellish flames reprimanding humanity for its sinful thoughts? Where have I heard that one before?

Jamie Sarkonak: Federal Court states the obvious — being trans in U.S. doesn’t make you a refugee

In January 2025, a transgender man from Wisconsin applied for asylum in Canada with the hope of attaining permanent refugee status. The person, who is biologically female, had visited the country several times prior and had even gotten engaged to a Canadian. But after a year and a half of asylum proceedings, the applicant was met with rejection: just a couple of weeks ago, the Federal Court issued a decision green-lighting the individual’s deportation.

Sydney council rejects controversial bid to broadcast Muslim call to prayer from Australia’s largest mosque after huge backlash

A Western Sydney council has rejected an application to broadcast the Muslim call to prayer from a mosque over concerns it would create too much noise in the neighbourhood.

Canterbury-Bankstown Council rejected the proposal, which sought permission for the call to prayer to be broadcast at Australia’s largest mosque.

Lakemba Mosque in NSW had requested permission for the broadcast to take place once a week on Fridays for 15 minutes using four loudspeakers.

More guts than Canada.
