How Canada’s border offices are facing a major security gap

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is woefully behind when it comes to protecting its only facilities at airports, ports of entry and offices from security threat and risk, an audit found.

A recent effort to catch up on that work has exposed major shortcomings: Unauthorized people walked into secure areas through “piggybacking.” Surveillance cameras were missing or too blurry to be useful to guard the facilities. And official stamps used to process travellers and goods at ports of entry couldn’t be accounted for.

Looks like CBSA has a DEI problem.

CALGARY — A recent Globe and Mail column has become the latest flashpoint in the raging debate over immigration in Canada, as columnist Doug Saunders’ call to “rev up” the country’s immigration system has drawn harsh criticism from Conservative politicians and other commentators who say Canada is still reeling from the previous population surge.

Saunders is on the wrong side of history. I recall a few years ago he was extolling the multicultural virtues of the UK’s London.

Immigration board asks feds to better track temporary residents

OTTAWA – Canada needs to make further cuts to the number of temporary residents in the country and generate better tracking data when they leave the country, the head of an expert panel on immigration said.

Parisa Mahboubi chairs the C.D. Howe Institute’s immigration targets council, which includes former immigration minister Jason Kenney and top academics in the field in its membership. The council is preparing a submission for the government’s annual immigration levels consultation period.

The report comes two years after Canada began moving to cut down on the number of temporary residents, including foreign students and workers, as soaring immigration contributed to significant issues, including housing shortages and overburdened social services.

Last week, the United Kingdom released an orientation manual for migrants. Among the sage pieces of advice it offered to readers were “never use threat, force or pressure to make someone have sex” and “women can … choose who they marry.”

“If you have sex with someone without their consent, this is called rape,” counselled the manual. “Rape is a serious crime in the UK. You could go to prison, lose your support and accommodation, and it will affect your asylum claim.” Other topics covered included domestic violence and respect for others in public. It’s a quick nine pages. Indeed, Canada could probably make use of such a leaflet.

Anti-invading migrant horde speaker blocked from entering Canada in time for Hamilton event even as Iran’s IRGC members continue to reside here

OTTAWA — Austrian anti-immigrant speaker Martin Sellner says he was not granted an electronic travel authorization in time for a trip to Hamilton to speak at a nationalist conference.

In a video posted on X, Sellner says Canada not granting him permission to enter the country is political persecution, and said Canada is engaging in “silent, ethnic replacement” of its population.

He was scheduled to speak this weekend at a conference in the Hamilton area held by the Dominion Society, an organization advocating for a policy called remigration.

Today they sit at 121,800, and the posted processing time has doubled since spring, from 12 to 25 months.
