LNG Canada will once again use Chinese steel for the “specialized fabrication capability” it says it requires for its $33-billion Phase 2 expansion project in Kitimat, B.C.
When the proposed expansion led the list of early projects referred to the new federal Major Projects Office in September 2025, Prime Minister Mark Carney told reporters these ambitious building projects would be “at the heart of our new, comprehensive Buy Canadian policy.”
In fact, the joint venture will buy more components from the state-owned China Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC), which also manufactured its first two liquified natural gas processing units, known as trains, now in operation.

Canadian government uses hundreds of Chinese-made drones, documents reveal
OTTAWA — The Canadian government is using at least 1,600 Chinese-made drones across more than a dozen public service departments with varying security protocols, documents tabled in Parliament show.
The RCMP is the biggest user by far with 1,027 of the drones, but says it has avoided using them in national security operations and will look elsewhere as it prepares to use hundreds of millions of dollars in upcoming funding to expand its fleet.

In a 2,700-word address on Aug. 22 explaining why we’re in a trade war, Mr. Carney never said the word “China.” In his Sept. 8 Forward Guidance video, he mentioned it once, observing that an Alberta farm can now get better prices for its canola “because our trade diversification opens opportunities with China.” That was the deal he negotiated in January in Beijing, with the benefit emphasized and the price tag removed.

“You do not want your land vehicles to be controlled by [China] and weaponized by them,” I-Chung Lai—The Prospect Foundation president and the former director general of both international affairs and China affairs—told The Hub during a foreign press tour event at the think tank’s headquarters in Taipei. “That threat needs to be taken very seriously.”

OTTAWA — Toronto police are investigating a September 22 confrontation outside China’s Toronto consulate in which a man wearing a black jacket with a red People’s Republic of China insignia damaged Falun Gong protest displays and threatened a female practitioner with lethal violence, invoking Chinese law, accusing protesters of making trouble and threatening to have her shot.

OTTAWA — Mark Carney’s government’s own Public Safety assessment of the controversial BC Ferries contract with a Chinese state-owned shipyard identified potential risks to Canadian supply chains and flagged the proximity of ferry routes to sensitive military and intelligence infrastructure — including a Signals Intelligence facility in Haida Gwaii and the country’s main naval base in Victoria.

The way US prosecutors tell it, Huawei is a bunch of racketeers whose crimes range from stealing technology to evading sanctions against Iran. The company allegedly ran what it called a “competition management group,” whose purpose was to award monthly bonuses to employees who stole the most valuable information from competitors. Staff were invited to submit entries via a special encrypted email box.
“The entire business operated through a pattern of theft, lies and cover-ups,” according to Taylor Stout, a federal prosecutor in the Justice Department, as he laid out the government’s criminal case to jurors. The trial of China’s global technology champion, whose revenue hit $127 billion last year, got underway in a Brooklyn court this month and is expected to last well into the new year, with Huawei potentially facing enormous fines.

Canada’s spy agency says China is the “most active state” conducting foreign interference in Canada, and warns that Beijing is likely to continue targeting Canadian democratic institutions.
In its Sept. 3 report on foreign interference (FI), the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) said Chinese officials and proxies are responsible for planning, organizing, and carrying out interference activities in Canada.
With new exit ban law in China, should Canadians rethink visiting?
New travel restrictions for citizens and foreigners came into effect in China on Tuesday, including potential exit bans for those who run afoul of Chinese regulations.
“The law provides for a host of conditions under which authorities could restrict your ability to leave the country,” Henry Gao, a law professor at Singapore Management University, told CTV’s Your Morning on Tuesday.
“After this law comes into effect, China is becoming ‘Hotel California’ – you can try to check out, but you might never be able to leave.”

Records show Anand approved Canadian military training for Chinese PLA troops
Foreign Minister Anita Anand approved Canadian Armed Forces personnel training members of China’s People’s Liberation Army while she served as defence minister in 2023, according to newly released Access To Information records.
Blacklock’s Reporter says the documents also show military officials discussed how to publicly characterize the training, with officers warning colleagues against claiming there was no confirmation Canadian personnel would directly train Chinese troops.

Mark Carney’s admiration for the European Union is so deep that he was accused of aiding and abetting Project Fear, the campaign to stop the U.K. exiting the massive economic bloc.
As governor of the Bank of England, he failed to stop Brexit but as prime minister his Project Fear II against the U.S. has been far more successful and far more galvanizing. The prime minister suggested on Sunday that the Journal’s reporting overstated what the government is seeking.
I think Carney is using the EU as a backdoor for China.
Carney invited ChiCom Pals To “Investor Summit”
Several Chinese state-backed investors are taking part in Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Canada Investment Summit, another sign of warming relations with Beijing after years of Ottawa publicly spurning money from China.
The Prime Minister’s Office said Monday that, like everyone else, Chinese investors will be subject to federal rules governing foreign investment in this country.
Both China International Capital Corp. (CICC) and China Investment Corp. − China’s sovereign wealth fund − are attending Mr. Carney’s summit. CICC is roughly 40-per-cent owned by Central Huijin Investment, a subsidiary of China Investment Corp.
