Last Saturday evening, the American media class descended for its annual jamboree of back-slapping at the Washington Hilton. Protestors outside waved signs reading ‘Death to tyrants’ and ‘Death to all of them’.
The atmosphere inside was more jovial. Donald Trump was attending the dinner for the first time since becoming President, along with most of his cabinet and senior officials. We were expecting him to give the assembled media a good roasting – and some of us were looking forward to it.

Anyone who has ever dealt with a toxic narcissist understands the psychology behind their manipulative language, words and intents. What Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is doing here is very dangerous, particularly for the Canadian people.

It must have been tempting for Prime Minister Mark Carney to appoint an absolute blockhead as the new parliamentary budget officer.
Instead, in Annette Ryan, he has installed a 30-year public service veteran with Finance Department experience who has probably seen it all when it comes to juggling the numbers and concealing errors.

Richard Wagner, the chief justice of the Supreme Court, must recuse himself if there is to be a hearing of the federal government’s appeal in the Emergencies Act case, or risk poisoning the well of justice.
Wagner has shown such a prejudice toward the Freedom Convoy protesters as to raise questions about his impartiality. Questioning the impartiality of a judge, let alone the highest in the land, is a serious matter. But questions must be asked in light of inappropriate and impolitic comments made by Wagner in April 2022.
“If these allegations are true, there will be consequences,” Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier promised Monday, announcing he has launched a probe into the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) “alleged deceptive and unfair practices related to charitable solicitations and fundraising.”
“The SPLC raises millions in charitable donations every year, while allegedly paying members and leaders within the very groups it purports to fight,” Uthmeier wrote on X.com, linking to a press release. “SPLC appears to be running a deceptive organization that pays informants to manufacture racism on its behalf.”

Guelph police have arrested and charged two men from Toronto as part of an ongoing human trafficking investigation.
According to police, the suspects were to have engaged in the trafficking and sexual exploitation of two youths from Guelph.

Our latest tracking survey with the Star, conducted with 1,000 adults across the province last month, found the Progressive Conservatives and Liberals in a statistical tie among committed voters. And the proportion of voters having a strong desire for change has climbed 12 points since October, to 54 per cent. For a government that’s spent much of the past year with leads north of 20 points, this should serve as a warning sign.

Honda is abandoning plans to build a $15-billion EV plant in Ontario because of slumping demand, according to a report by Nikkei, Japan’s leading business publication.
Honda neither confirmed nor denied the report.
“The content of the article was not released by Honda, and we have nothing to report at this time,” the company said in a written statement.
