California fires: Number of missing soars over 1,000 as Paradise reels from unfathomable losses

The death toll from the devastating Camp fire rose to 71 Friday, while the number of people reported missing jumped to more than 1,000, authorities said.

Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea told reporters at a Thursday afternoon news conference that search crews had recovered eight more bodies in the burn area.

The number of people unaccounted for rose to 1,011, up from 631 on Thursday evening, after authorities combed through additional 911 calls, emails and other reports generated at the peak of the chaotic evacuation.

Honea said that number may include some people who are counted twice or others who may not know they were reported missing.

The Camp fire is by far the worst wildfire in recorded California history. By Thursday evening, the blaze had chewed through 141,000 acres and 11,862 structures, destroying an entire town in hours. Officials said it could take weeks to complete the search for victims. Thousands of survivors are without homes, living in shelters and tent cities.

How Trump overturned the gameboard in Paris on the corporate climate swamp

In the U.S. this year, corporate spending on “cause sponsorship” will hit a new record of US$2.06 billion, more than double the amount spent on business sponsorships for festivals, fairs, annual events and the arts, according to estimates by the IEG Sponsorship Report. Cause sponsorship — think of Bell publicly aligning its brand with mental health awareness — has been one of the hottest growth areas for marketers in the last few years.

Fearful That His Legacy Will Come Undone, Former President Opens Fool Mouth

Somebody should tell him that he used to be important:

Barack Obama has accused Donald Trump of “rejecting the future” by pulling out of the Paris climate deal.

The former U.S. President said those nations that remained signed up to the accord would “reap the benefits in jobs and industries created.”

But he added: “This Administration joins a small handful of nations that reject the future.”

Mr. Obama’s administration played a key role in negotiating the deal.

YOUR CHOICE: A GREEN AMERICA OR A BROWN AMERICA

In celebration of Earth Day this Saturday, let’s review how the Sierra Club sold its soul and screwed the Earth for a $100 million donation. They must hate themselves for it, so why shouldn’t we hate them, too?

After Teddy Kennedy’s 1965 immigration act began dumping millions of Third-Worlders on the country, the Sierra Club talked of little else besides reducing immigration.

In 1970, the club adopted a resolution complaining that the country’s growing population was polluting the “air, water and land” — to the point that “our very survival (is) threatened.”

In 1978, the Sierra Club adopted a resolution urging Congress to “conduct a thorough examination of U.S. immigration laws,” noting that the United States, Canada and Australia were the only countries admitting “more than a handful of permanent immigrants.”

In 1980, the club dropped its promotion of birth control, in order to focus on immigration. “It is obvious,” the club said, “that the numbers of immigrants the United States accepts affects our population size and growth rate,” even more than “the number of children per family.”

In 1989, the club’s Population Report expressly called for reducing the number of immigrants.

In 1990, the club’s grassroots leaders voted overwhelmingly to launch a major national campaign on the immigration problem.

Would any of this be of interest to an alleged environmental group? It used to be — until the early 2000s.

That was when the Sierra Club was given $100 million by hedge fund billionaire David Gelbaum in exchange for never opposing immigration again. The club said, How dare you ask us to abandon our principles for filthy lucre!

Just kidding! It said, SURE! Did you bring the check?

Mass Third World immigration is a triple whammy for the environment because:

1) Millions more people are tromping through our country;

2) The new people do not share Americans’ love of nature and cleanliness; and

3) We’re not allowed to criticize them.

Earth Hour Flops Again… Even in energy impoverished Ontario

It’s fading into irrelevance thanks in part to Ontario’s Wynne induced energy poverty.

“In the city of Toronto electricity demand was 77 megawatts lower than a typical Saturday in March — a 2.8 per cent drop that’s equivalent to taking 31,000 homes off the grid, according to Toronto Hydro.

Last year, the drop was 89 megawatts; in 2015 it was 103.”

Environmentalists Aren’t Just Wrong. They’re Loathsome And Evil Too

Today is Earth Hour and as usual I shall be lighting a candle – several, actually; plus turning my Rayburn up to eleven; plus turning on all the house lights; plus lighting the patio heaters; plus starting my Landrover and leaving its diesel engine to idle outside in the drive; plus switching on the immersion heater; plus running several hot baths – in tribute to the world’s climate heroes.

I refer, of course, to the tiny, elite fellowship of scientists, economists, politicians, journalists and bloggers who have bravely taken the right side of the climate argument and spoken up for truth, integrity and the scientific method in defiance of the vast and terrifying propaganda behemoth they call the Green Blob.
