Ann Widdecombe was bludgeoned 21 times over the head with a hammer in a two-minute attack captured on camera, a court heard today.

Joshua Kerry, 28, is accused of entering the former Tory minister and Brexit Party MEP’s Dartmoor home through the open front door and murdering her as she ate lunch in her kitchen.

Kerry, who was in the dock at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, then rifled through her handbag, grabbed her wallet and fled after spending just 120 seconds inside the property, prosecutor Kashif Malik said.

Why Trump is threatening new 50% tariffs on Canadian exports right now

It may appear that U.S. President Donald Trump’s move to hit many Canadian products with new tariffs of 50 per cent came out of the blue, but there are clear signs of what’s driving the tactic.

Monday’s announcement comes as the U.S. pushes for significant changes to the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), changes that would lock any Canadian trade concessions into the text of a trade deal.

The Trump administration wants to wipe out as much of Canada’s leverage in those CUSMA talks as possible.

This guy gets it. Canada is not going to win with Carney’s strategy.

‘Front groups and fellow travelers’: state department attacks US left over Cuba

As part of the Trump administration’s continuing attack on left-leaning groups, the US state department has listed several activists and organizations as “front groups and fellow travelers” for Cuba, including Hasan Piker and the Amazon Labor Union founder Chris Smalls.

In a 100-page report released on Monday, the state department denounces Cuba as the “capital of 21st-century communism”, accusing the Cuban government of carrying out a “campaign of subversion” that has “infiltrated the highest reaches of the US government, recruited and cultivated generations of American activists [and] backed an unprecedented wave of leftwing terrorism on American soil”.

Mass shooting suspect kills himself in German jail weeks after massacre that left six dead at shelter for mothers

A man suspected of fatally shooting six child welfare workers at a shelter for mothers in Stade in northern Germany last month died by suicide in jail on Tuesday.

The suspect, who has been partially identified in German media as 45-year-old Fatih Khan G., was found dead by jail staff in his single cell early Tuesday, the Lower Saxony state justice ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said there are ‘currently no indications of third-party involvement’ in the suspect’s death at the jail, and that both his relatives and the relatives of the shooting victims had been informed.
