Heads should roll at BBC: leaked dossier reveals doctoring of Trump video and accusations of bias in Gaza coverage

The BBC is facing calls to sack its director-general and other senior executives following accusations of “serious and systemic” editorial bias.

The Telegraph has published revelations from a leaked dossier written by a whistleblower and sent to BBC board members that details numerous instances of apparent bias at the broadcaster.

The examples include a Panorama documentary that doctored a Donald Trump speech and that BBC Arabic “minimised Israeli suffering” in its coverage of the war with Hamas to “paint Israel as the aggressor”.

Friedrich Merz says Syrians no longer have reason for asylum in Germany

Syrians no longer have reason to be granted asylum in Germany after the end of their country’s civil war, according to Friedrich Merz, who said they will instead be encouraged to return to help with the reconstruction of their homeland.

During Syria’s 14-year civil war, Germany took in more refugees than any other country in the EU, but the chancellor and others in his coalition cabinet argue that the situation has changed since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government 11 months ago.

Merz said late on Tuesday that he expected many of the more than 1 million Syrians living in Germany would voluntarily return home.

The Trudeau Disaster

In 1931 the British Parliament passed the Statute of Westminster. For all practical purposes this statute granted legislative independence to the self-governing Dominions of the British Empire, which at the time basically meant Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the Irish Free State and Newfoundland. The gist of this very famous statute was that the UK Parliament could no longer legislate for a Dominion without its consent. They were of equal status to the UK. And of these old Dominions, Canada and Australia were the glittering stars. These two countries had everything before them. They went on to perform brilliantly in World War II. Their post-war fortunes included producing some of the highest standards of living on Earth as well as being amongst the most free. Even as late as 2015 Canada’s two richest provinces were, in per capita terms, comparable to the top 10 of US states. And Australia had comparatively cheap electricity, low debt and high per capita wealth.

At least seven people were killed and 11 injured when a UPS plane crashed in a colossal, fiery explosion — leaving a long trail of flames and destruction — shortly after taking off from Louisville’s Muhammad Ali International Airport on Tuesday evening, according to officials and wild footage.

Four people on the ground were killed and the three people who were onboard the flight are presumed dead, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said. The numbers were expected to grow as emergency crews combed the scene for additional victims through the night, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear warned.

Tasha Kheiriddin: Liberals need to convince our kids to enlist in the military

Canada’s young people are falling behind. According to Statistics Canada, the unemployment rate for those aged 15 to 24 sits at 14.2 per cent, more than double the national average. The unemployment rate among youth attending school is 17.1 per cent, up 3.1 percentage points from last September. Among those youth who are working, many are under-employed, bouncing between short-term contracts or part-time jobs that barely cover the costs of rent or school. Add to that, AI eliminating entry level jobs and an economy braced for more tariffs, and the employment prospects for young people look increasingly bleak.

Zohran Mamdani Wins New York City Mayoral Election in Historic Run for Gracie Mansion

…Mr. Mamdani won four of the city’s five boroughs — all except Staten Island — with either a majority or a plurality of the vote. Decision Desk HQ predicted that Mr. Mamdani had won the race just 30 minutes after polls closed on Tuesday. CNN and NBC News projected the same outcome shortly thereafter.

According to an exit poll from CNN, Mr. Mamdani struggled with non-college educated and Jewish voters in the city. That survey found that 42 percent of voters with no college degree backed Mr. Cuomo compared to 38 percent who supported Mr. Mamdani. Among Jewish voters, Mr. Cuomo prevailed by a two-to-one margin, with 60 percent backing the ex-governor and 31 percent supporting Mr. Mamdani.

7 Takeaways From a Stunning New York City Mayoral Election

Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old state lawmaker, was elected New York’s 111th mayor on Tuesday, riding a historic surge of enthusiasm as the nation’s largest city embraced generational and ideological change.

The Associated Press called the race just 35 minutes after polls closed, cementing a stunning upset that took root in June’s Democratic primary. Then and now, Mr. Mamdani handily dispatched former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, the scion of a New York dynasty, and the big-money super PACs backing him.

New York’s Desi voters are flexing power — and Zohran Mamdani wooed them hard

Zohran Mamdani owes his spectacular political rise to one New York City demographic above all others: South Asians.

And while they make up only 5% of the city’s population, this rapidly growing ethnic group is making itself heard.

South Asian turnout in June’s Democratic primary increased by 40% compared to 2021

Transgender nurse denies ‘staring at breasts’ at employment tribunal

A transgender nurse at the centre of legal action over trans women using female changing rooms at a hospital has denied claims that she stared at her colleagues’ breasts.

Rose Henderson, who was born male but identifies as female, also denied walking around in boxer shorts and repeatedly asking a female nurse if she was getting changed.

Henderson instead claimed that she only ever “sarcastically” asked a different female colleague if she was almost changed when she was in a hurry to leave work.
