Conservative MPs weep at hearing for Canadians claiming COVID vaccine injuries
Conservative MPs became emotional during a public hearing as Canadians described deaths and serious health problems they attributed to COVID-19 vaccines, including the case of a longtime parliamentary aide who qualified for federal vaccine injury compensation before his death.
“I don’t think we have properly acknowledged the harm that was done to many people,” Conservative MP Blaine Calkins, who represents Ponoka-Didsbury, Alta., said at the hearing.

I was getting ready for work when news broke of the first plane. A colleague and I were heading for a meeting at Vancouver’s airport.
By the time we got turned around the airport was in chaos. Black SUV’s, parked aircraft and a flood of exiting travelers.
Kathy and I caught up with each later that day. 10 years later we would attend the 911 anniversary in New York.

UK: The end of the rush towards assisted dying? MPs vote down controversial law
A fresh bid to legalise assisted dying was defeated in the House of Commons today as efforts to revive the controversial Bill fell at the first major hurdle.
MPs voted by 286 to 270, a majority of 16, to reject the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill at its Second Reading.
There were cheers and a shout of ‘good’ as the result was announced in the chamber, while some MPs could be seen hugging and pumping their fists.

‘No way’ Canada can meet its 2030 climate target, researchers say
OTTAWA — Canada’s progress against greenhouse gas emissions is stalling, according to a new analysis that concludes the country’s climate target for 2030 is so far out of reach that it likely won’t even be met by 2050 — the year Prime Minister Mark Carney promises to hit “net zero” emissions.
Researchers at the Canadian Climate Institute were set to release their analysis Friday morning, concluding the country is “far off track for its near-term climate goals,” and that there is a “cavernous gap” between projected future emissions and the ambition to hit net-zero by 2050.

Every time I am invited to China my heart lifts. Within 24 hours of arriving, I have usually hit rock-bottom. By the time my visit is over, I am only too glad to be boarding the plane for Hong Kong and on to the UK. If you want a ‘full fat’ experience of China, try visiting as a keynote speaker at a conference. On arrival at the airport there will, inevitably, be a male driver bearing a card with ‘MacNab’ written on it. He will, almost invariably, be accompanied by a female Master’s student.

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew called Donald Trump’s tariffs “immoral” after Canadian trade talks with the United States (US) fell apart.
That’s quite a charge coming from a Canadian politician.
“[T]he government of Manitoba is 100 percent behind the prime minister’s direction to retaliate against Donald Trump’s unjustified and immoral tariffs,” Kinew said at a press conference at the Manitoba legislature on August 22.
