On Sunday morning, when Mark Carney declared that Canada’s historic closeness with the United States now represents “weaknesses,” he opened the door to a fundamental rethinking of Canadian foreign policy. But if diversification means turning toward China, Canadians deserve a clear-eyed assessment of the risks, not just the opportunities. That assessment becomes far more complicated when viewed against what is now unfolding inside China’s military leadership.
US forces have interdicted a sanctioned vessel that is transporting oil from Iran, the country’s defence department has posted on X.
“US forces carried out a maritime interdiction and right-of-visit boarding of the sanctioned stateless vessel M/T Majestic X transporting oil from Iran, in the Indian Ocean,” the statement says.

Man sentenced in northern Ont. child abduction case
A southern Ontario man has been sentenced for abducting a child almost three years ago in northern Ontario.
Manoj Govindbalunikam, the man who admitted to abducting a child in Thessalon in 2023, has been sentenced to 18 months behind bars.
The defence for the former Brampton, Ont., Realtor had argued previously that the situation was a cultural misunderstanding, adding that an extended sentence could impact Govindbalunikam’s ability to stay in Canada.

Prosecutors in Florida have launched a criminal investigation into ChatGPT because of claims that the AI bot helped an alleged killer prepare for a mass shooting.
James Uthmeier, Florida’s attorney general, said state officials were demanding answers from OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, which allegedly offered “significant advice” to a gunman who left two people dead at Florida State University in April 2025.
“If ChatGPT were a person, it would be facing charges for murder,” Mr Uthmeier said. “This criminal investigation will determine whether OpenAI bears criminal responsibility for ChatGPT’s actions in the shooting at Florida State University last year.”
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer says there is a gap between the Canada and U.S. administrations’ trade philosophies.
Greer made the comments at a U.S. House Ways and Means Committee hearing on U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade agenda on Wednesday.
“They’ve done this, but overall they’ve indicated that they want to be trading more, they want to have more trade agreements with more countries,” Greer said, when asked whether Canada is taking the same steps as Mexico to better align with U.S. trade policy, specifically when it comes to rules of origin.

On Sunday, a community centre in Montreal hosted a Palestinian prisoners speaking event that celebrated convicted terrorists involved in stabbings, murders and a failed suicide bombing. The event was organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), a group with documented ties to terrorist entities.
Three days prior, two government departments and the centre’s administration were contacted by a lawyer warning them that the event posed a serious risk of promoting hatred and glorifying terrorism, to which none of the parties responded.
THERE is a term for what is happening in Britain today but the establishment is terrified to say it. That term is institutional racism. For years we were told that the goal of the Equality Act was to protect discriminated against minorities. Now the mask has slipped. A month ago, it was obvious that our frenemies in NATO was trying to play President Trump for a fool by blocking USA bases in their countries from carrying out Operation Epic Fury, which would keep the Islamic regime in Iran from building nuclear weaponry.

The military commander overseeing recruitment said the Canadian Armed Forces is nowhere near meeting a target set a decade ago for women to make up 25 per cent of the Forces by 2026 — and at the current rate, reaching that goal is impossible.
Lt.-Gen. Erick Simoneau, chief of military personnel, said Canada’s military is still struggling to attract and keep enough women in uniform.
“We’re having great difficulties because the bulk of our occupations and positions that we have to offer to the Canadian population is in the combat arms in the army,” said Simoneau. “So until we can convince women to join the army and then the combat arms, I’m very pessimistic about meeting the 25 per cent target.”
