My Paris neighbourhood has become a no-go zone

When I moved into Paris’s seventh arrondissement, I was not expecting to find myself living in one of the city’s dreaded no-go zones.

My neighbourhood, admittedly, is not one of the notorious districts on lists of forbidding no-go zones in the French capital’s bleak north end, plagued with crack houses and criminal gangs. I live in one of Paris’s poshest areas. The seventh arrondissement is known for its burnished boulevards and grand monuments. Every morning, I walk my two dogs on the Champ de Mars in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower.

Before the messages between Widdecombe and the producer stopped, she had been in good spirits, chatting and joking.

Hollywoke’s Assault on Beauty

I haven’t seen Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, but I can accept that it’s a good movie. Critics I respect have praised the film, such as the brilliant classical scholar Spencer Klavan () in the Washington Post. What I can’t accept is Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy. Not because Nolan swapped a black woman for a legendary white one — which is pathetic enough — but because he swapped an average looking one for the ultimate beauty. And the Left is less interested in elevating diversity than in diminishing beauty, and for the feminist Left, specifically female beauty.

U.S. to impose new 50% tariff on Canada over alcohol bans, dairy quotas

The U.S. said Monday it will be imposing an additional 50 per cent tariff on Canadian imports due to retaliatory and “discriminatory” measures Canada took in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

The new tariff will take effect 30 days after Trump signs the executive order and will apply to goods covered by the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement on free trade, a senior administration official told reporters on background.

Two Toronto police officers racially profiled a group of Black and brown men sitting in a car waiting for a friend outside an apartment building, “completely invented a reason” for stopping them and then “tried to cover it up” in court, a judge has found.

In her decision critical of the “well-meaning rookie officers,” Superior Court Justice Tamara Sugunasiri excluded the evidence police said they found on a man sitting in the backseat — a loaded gun and fentanyl — and acquitted him of all charges.

“Race clearly informed the officers’ decision to detain,” Sugunasiri wrote in her decision last month.

Sitting on his porch in Teshie near Accra, Heavy J dipped a brush into red oil paint and dabbed it carefully on to his canvas – a flour sack – adding blood to a knife being wielded by a man. Higher on the canvas, he had started on an outline of a skull.

Heavy J was creating a poster, but not as you might have expected for a horror film. Instead, it was for the animated fairytale The Little Mermaid. The man with the knife was not a killer but the film’s kind-hearted prince, Eric. The skull was also unrelated to the story. “We add more to make people interested,” said Heavy J, whose real name is Jeaurs Affutu.

Premier Doug Ford says U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to introduce new tariffs on Canada over northern Ontario wildfire smoke that’s drifted south of the border is a “bunch of rubbish.”

“Rather than sit there and complain, why don’t we see some help from President Trump. Send up some water bombers, send up some wildland firefighters, but then again, they have thousands of fires going in the U.S. right now, but you don’t hear Canada ever complain,” Ford said at a news conference Monday.
