Michelle Obama: America Doesn’t Deserve My Presidency

I never thought that I would agree with Michelle Obama, but she has a point. America doesn’t deserve her presidency.

We’re a sinful nation and we have a lot of problems, but we don’t deserve an even angrier and less talented Obama.

Our decrepit high streets are a window into broken Britain

The Great British high street is now synonymous with decay, crime and exploitation.

Little exemplifies the UK’s decline as much as the death of the great British high street. With nothing left to buy or browse, they have become anti-social, run-down and depressing. And yet liberal journalists and establishment politicians remain in complete denial. Either they are truly ignorant of what is going on in Britain’s most disadvantaged communities, or they simply don’t care.

‘Fury from Alberta and Saskatchewan’: Western patience wearing thin over lack of Alberta pipeline plan

Prime Minister Mark Carney rolled out a second wave of “nation-building projects” on Thursday and an oil pipeline from Alberta was not on the list.

Patience is wearing thin in western Canada, even as Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says her government is “still working” with the Carney government to advance a bitumen pipeline to tidewater.

Genetically enhanced babies are a vision of a dark new future

Healthier babies, fewer cruel diseases, a better start for every child: it all sounds irresistible. This week, the Times reported that gene-editing techniques are now being considered for routine use in human embryos. Each step is presented as modest and benign, yet beneath the soothing language lies a shift that takes us from caring for the sick towards treating children as projects to be optimised.

Blog Issues: Your patience is requested

Hi All!

We have had some cache issues with the blog which we hope are solved as of this writing. For the last several hours the blog was not presenting the latest posts, a cache reset fixed it, I hope.

Please let me know in the comments if you think you are not seeing the latest posts.

In other blog matters…

20 years of posts (Over 226K of em) make for a very unwieldy blog, it’s causing problems for my host.

Our solution: We will truncate the blog history at the last 5 years and see if that doesn’t make BCF a better Blog citizen. I will look for a low cost host to store a full version of BCF for posterity. Fingers crossed.

Thank you for your patience.

Nigeria’s Christians beg Trump for help before they are wiped out as bodies pile up and villages disappear

Nigeria’s Christians are being pushed to the brink of extinction – and could be wiped off the map within two generations without urgent international intervention.

That’s the chilling warning from Emeka Umeagbalasi, the outspoken founder of Nigeria’s International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety). And he’s not mincing his words.

The veteran activist says a silent, systematic genocide has swept Africa’s most populous nation for nearly two decades – a ‘long-running, coordinated campaign’ of killings, kidnappings and church burnings carried out mostly by Islamist militants and enabled by the Nigerian state itself.

‘Dear Canada, we miss you’: What these U.S. cities and states are doing to woo Canadians back

Recent data from both sides of the border show that Canadians are travelling to the U.S. in much smaller numbers, thanks to an ongoing trade war, U.S. President Donald Trump’s talk of annexation, more intrusive border crossing requirements and a weak Canadian dollar.

But U.S. tourist destinations are fighting back with a variety of schemes to lure Canadians back across the border, either by tugging at their heartstrings or their pursestrings. Here are a few of them.

Canada is at a breaking point—the growing generational gap is a big reason why

Many young Canadians are giving up on their future. They might one day be prepared to give up on Canada itself. This is not hyperbole; this is data. An October 2023 poll by Nanos Research revealed that 70 percent of Canadians—including 75 percent of adults under thirty-five—believe the next generation will experience a lower standard of living compared to today. Young Canadians are poorer, more indebted, and more economically precarious than any generation in modern history. The social contract that promised each generation at least as good a life as the previous one is broken.

HEATHER KLEIN: The dangerous rebranding of pedophiles as “minor attracted persons”

A recent shift in how the language around child sexual abuse is being framed has come to my attention, and it is deeply disturbing. The word “pedophile” is slowly being replaced in some academic and therapeutic settings with the term MAP, meaning minor-attracted person. At first glance, it might seem harmless or even compassionate. The idea is that someone can experience an attraction without acting on it, and therefore, reducing stigma might encourage them to seek help.

At 16, I was experimented on by the CIA and now I’m suing

CIA linked Allan Memorial Institute in Montreal

The first thing Lana Ponting remembers about the Allan Memorial Institute, a former psychiatric hospital in Montreal, Canada, is the smell – almost medicinal.

“I didn’t like the look of the place. It didn’t look like a hospital to me,” she told the BBC from her home in Manitoba.

That hospital – once the home of a Scottish shipping magnate – would be her home for a month in April 1958, after a judge ordered the then-16-year-old to undergo treatment for “disobedient” behaviour.

Turkey Is Thwarting Trump’s Attempts to Disarm Hamas, Achieve Peace in the Middle East

Attempts by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to play a key role in plans to form an “international security force” for Gaza pose a serious threat to US President Donald J. Trump’s efforts to disarm Hamas terrorists and augur poorly for his efforts to bring peace to the Middle East.

A key requirement of Trump’s 20-point plan to end the Gaza conflict is for Hamas to disarm and end its malign control of the Gaza Strip. Only then will negotiations begin on finding a lasting ceasefire agreement and rebuilding the enclave for an enduring peace after two years of brutal conflict.
