A handcuffed sex criminal spat on British families while being deported from the UK on a budget holiday flight to Turkey.

Holidaymakers travelling on a Wizz Air service from London to Istanbul last Wednesday watched in disbelief as the scenes unfolded at Gatwick Airport.

The man – understood to be a Turkish national being deported after serving a prison sentence in Britain – was hauled from a van and forced onto the aircraft by officials in high-vis jackets.

KAPLAN: Alberta’s carbon tax shock — why Carney-Smith’s net zero pact may backfire on the oil sands

KAPLAN: Alberta’s carbon tax shock — why Carney-Smith’s net zero pact may backfire on the oil sands

The misguided decision by Alberta Premier Danielle Smith to accept Ottawa’s demands to increase the province’s effective industrial carbon tax to $130 per tonne by 2040 will impose an estimated additional $33 billion in cumulative carbon costs (an average of $1.26 per barrel across all oil sands production) on the oil sands sector between 2030 and 2040.

Why Young Britons Don’t Know Their History

Why Young Britons Don’t Know Their History

Two-thirds of young Britons don’t recognize the significance of V-E Day, according to a survey from the Royal British Veterans Enterprise. The findings, released to coincide with the 81st anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe on May 8, expose Gen Z’s shocking historical ignorance of a military victory that, for decades, was central to British identity.

These findings are no surprise. Today’s young adults have grown up at a time when Great Britain is at war with its own past. They came of age viewing footage of Black Lives Matter protesters in Bristol toppling a 125-year-old statue of Edward Colston, a slave trader and philanthropist, dragging it through the streets, and dumping it in a nearby port. Though arrested for criminal damage, the protesters were feted in popular culture. One woman performing a black power salute inspired a sculptor to create a new statue for Colston’s plinth, which drew widespread media attention when unveiled. When one of the vandals appeared in court, he told the jury, as a reporter characterized it, that Colston’s statue was “like a racist piece of graffiti which the city council had failed to remove.”

John Ivison: Canada’s military isn’t buying into Carney’s ‘buy Canadian’ plan

John Ivison: Canada’s military isn’t buying into Carney’s ‘buy Canadian’ plan

The decision by the Trump administration to “reassess” the value of the Second World War-era Permanent Joint Board of Defence (PJBD) points to a confusion of ideas.

In his January speech in Davos, Prime Minister Mark Carney claimed that “hegemons (like the U.S.) cannot continually monetize their relationships,” as he announced a plan to double defence spending and partner with the European Union to diversify procurement.

Western Michigan Medical Ethics Professor Has Plot to Secretly Spread Tick-Borne Disease, Inject Everyone With Drugs

Academia often provides a veneer of legitimacy for people to say insane and evil things.

That’s certainly the case for Parker Crutchfield, a professor at Western Michigan University’s medical school who teaches medical ethics.

To put it simply, Crutchfield has an obsession with covertly injecting people with substances to create a more “moral” world — all in the name of the greater good.

Why is the U.S. blaming Canada for the suspension of the Permanent Joint Board on Defence?

Why is the U.S. blaming Canada for the suspension of the Permanent Joint Board on Defence?

The United States says it is “pausing” its participation in the U.S.-Canada Permanent Joint Board on Defence “to reassess how this forum benefits shared North American defence.” Here’s what to know.

The Permanent Joint Board on Defence (PJBD) is the senior advisory body on continental defence. Composed of military and diplomatic representatives from both nations, it meets twice a year with locations alternating between Canada and the U.S.

Another Walgreens Is Closing in Chicago—Blame Criminals, Not the Company

Another Walgreens Is Closing in Chicago—Blame Criminals, Not the Company

Walgreens is pulling out of Chicago’s South Side, home to some of the city’s most crime-ridden areas. The closure of a store in the city’s Chatham neighborhood, set for June 4, marks the seventh Walgreens location to shut down on the South Side in the past year.

Who’s to blame for this departure? Chicago Alderman William Hall, who represents Chatham as part of Ward 6, blames the company. Walgreens, he said, should be charged with “first-degree corporate abandonment” for creating a “medicine drought,” and he even accused it of committing a “pharmaceutical genocide.” (It’s particularly rich that Hall is now castigating Walgreens for closing, given that he hadn’t been happy about Walgreens opening, alleging it “ran out” small, local businesses.)

Danielle Smith’s support for separation threatens proposed oil pipeline

Danielle Smith’s support for separation threatens proposed oil pipeline

Is Alberta premier Danielle Smith’s strategy for getting a bitumen pipeline to B.C.’s northwest coast about to reach its breaking point?

Sure, she’s got two Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with Prime Minister Mark Carney that pave the way for the pipeline but there’s still a lot of terrain to cover before it becomes a reality. And the thing that could hold it up is her persistent support for a separation referendum that will likely be held in October.
