It operates at enormous public and private expense, sucking up hundreds of billions of dollars in government money.
Its toxic bilge poisons much of society, but those who complain about it are often dismissed as ignorant or bigoted.
Its product is largely free of state and federal regulation.
It is often taken for granted that Canada is a democracy. Between the constant invocation of “our democratic institutions” by both government and opposition, Canadians are encouraged to believe that public policy ultimately reflects the will of the electorate. What this assumption ignores is the increasingly obvious reality that Canadian politics is shaped less by citizens than it is by organized institutional interests.
A 35-year-old woman was found wasting away to skin and bones on Los Angeles’ Skid Row, barely conscious on the floor of a fetid tent, nodding in and out amid the fentanyl haze. She died on June 17, 2026, in a hospital bed of meningitis and sepsis triggered by terminal malnutrition. Her body surrendered.
The woman was Daveigh Chase, the voice of Disney’s beloved Lilo in “Lilo & Stitch,” and the nightmare Samara crawling from the well in “The Ring.” She had millions in unclaimed residuals from her child stardom sitting untouched in accounts because she was “too far gone” on heroin and fentanyl.

Volodymyr was out jogging around the lake near his home, as he did almost every morning, when he noticed a van slowly driving alongside him. He immediately understood what was going on. ASHINGTON — Outgoing Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard released a trove of files Friday detailing Dr. Anthony Fauci’s role in the COVID-19 pandemic — showing that officials protected him from a whistleblower complaint alleging he lied to Congress about “gain of function” research after he suggested pangolins were to blame for the outbreak that killed millions.
Fauci, the documents show, met with a group of CIA officials on June 4, 2021, weeks after his fiery May 11 denial to Congress that he funded risky research into coronaviruses in the same Chinese city where the pandemic began.
We have some confusing notions of autonomy in this country when it comes to issues around medical assistance in dying (MAID). Some are of the view that people should be allowed to do what they want with their bodies no matter what, and that the state should have little to no role in decisions of life and death. But there is an important difference between letting people do what they want to themselves, and allowing some people to euthanize others who may be in a vulnerable state. It is not paternalistic to try to protect those people, and for the state to err on the side of life where there are questions of capacity, coercion and consent for an act for which there is no going back.

WINNIPEG — The Canadian Museum for Human Rights says an exhibit about displaced Palestinians is to go ahead as planned, despite criticism that it’s a potentially one-sided story.
