The ringleader of a sex grooming gang is being lined up for early release under Labour’s soft justice measures despite being handed a 35 year sentence.
Arshid Hussain raped and abused teenage girls in Rotherham, and a judge said his gang had committed ‘devastating’ harm of ‘unimaginable proportions’.
But now one of his victims has been officially notified by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) that her abuser may be coming out of jail soon – after just 10 years.

Jamie Varley and John McGowan-Fazakerley were found guilty of all charges in connection with the murder of Preston.
Varley was sentenced on Thursday to a whole life term for murder. McGowan-Fazakerley, convicted of allowing the death of a child, child cruelty and sexual assault, was sentenced to 25 year, and will serve at least two-thirds of that behind bars.
Mark Carney’s government will, come fall, face the pivotal task of deciding how to respond to a parliamentary committee recommendation to bar medical assistance in dying for patients with mental illness.
Justice Minister Sean Fraser has promised to review the newly released report from the Special Joint Committee on Medical Assistance in Dying. He also intends to read dissenting opinions. Four senators want the government to refer the matter to the Supreme Court of Canada.

Between the constant invocation of “our democratic institutions” by both government and opposition, Canadians are encouraged to believe that public policy ultimately reflects the will of the electorate. What this assumption ignores is the increasingly obvious reality that Canadian politics is shaped less by citizens than it is by organized institutional interests.
