It’s time Canada cut diplomatic ties with Israel says Star

Israel’s right to defend itself “does not grant us the right to oppress others,” the Israeli newspaper Haaretz once warned in an editorial. Seizing new land requires ruling that land, and rule without representation brings resistance. In turn, it continued, “resistance brings in its wake oppression. Oppression brings in its wake terrorism and counterterrorism.”

Published after the Six-Day War in 1967, it was as true then as it is now. The dire situation Haaretz predicted has, in fact, come to pass. Israel’s willingness to oppress Palestinians and neighbouring states has become not only intolerable but also dangerous to its own survival.

Turkish authorities have banned a cruise ship catering to American LGBTQ2S+ travellers from docking in the country’s ports, citing “moral standards” and “family values,” the CEO of the events company behind the upcoming Mediterranean tour said Thursday.

The “Athens to Venice” cruise, which departs from Greece on July 5, was expected to dock in the vibrant Turkish port town of Kuşadası two days later, followed by a trip to Istanbul, according to Atlantis Events, which is organizing the voyage.

Secret Service member was Googling rooftop location of Trump’s would-be assassin when shots rang out in Butler, Pa.: DHS report

A Secret Service counter drone operator futilely searched the internet for the location of the rooftop President Trump’s would-be assassin was spotted on as shots rang out at the July 13, 2024, campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, according to a Department of Homeland Security inspector general report released Thursday.

The report concluded Secret Service “missed multiple opportunities to detect, prevent, and disrupt” deranged gunman Thomas Crooks’ attempted assassination of Trump, including shocking communications failures that resulted in the president’s protective detail never being warned that an armed man had climbed onto the American Glass Research International (AGR) complex’s roof just 155 yards from the stage.

U.S. warned Iran about Israel’s aims to assassinate leaders

U.S. warned Iran about Israel’s aims to assassinate leaders

Senior U.S. officials feared that Israel intended to assassinate Iran’s top negotiators as the Trump administration pursued a high-stakes deal to end the war there and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, current and former officials familiar with the matter said.

Washington’s objection to killing Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the country’s parliamentary speaker, was so acute that this spring it took the extraordinary step of asking intermediaries to warn Iran about Israel’s assassination aims, the officials said.

“You kill those folks and you’re killing the pragmatists,” said a U.S. official, who like others spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the U.S. outlook on Israel’s targeted killing campaign.

CHARLEBOIS: What we learned from our exclusive interview with the U.S. ambassador to Canada

CHARLEBOIS: What we learned from our exclusive interview with the U.S. ambassador to Canada

Canadians have heard plenty about the Gordie Howe International Bridge — but largely from one perspective. Much of the public debate has focused on allegations that the owner of the Ambassador Bridge, a prominent Republican donor, has been lobbying the White House to delay the bridge’s opening in order to protect his commercial interests. That narrative has dominated headlines in Canada. After speaking with U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra on The Food Professor Podcast, however, one thing became clear: Washington believes there is much more to the story.

Hegseth Prepared a Bombshell Plan to Cut Troops in Europe. Then It Got Nixed.

WASHINGTON—Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was planning to head to Brussels last month to deliver what would be a bombshell announcement in a meeting with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s top military chiefs.

The U.S., he planned to say, was preparing additional cuts to its forces in Europe that would go beyond the canceled deployment of an armored brigade to Poland and the earlier withdrawal of an infantry brigade from Romania, people familiar with the matter said. But Hegseth’s proposal was nixed after it was shared with Marco Rubio—President Trump’s national-security adviser—and other senior officials, the people said.

Or Russia’s plans for Poland were revealed.
