A Canadian military counter-intelligence officer who is facing charges of espionage was allegedly sharing special operational secrets with Ukraine without the approval of his superiors, The Globe and Mail has learned.
Master Warrant Officer Matthew Robar was arrested last week and charged with multiple offences related to passing highly sensitive government secrets to a foreign entity. But the military has not said publicly which country the foreign entity helped.
That country was also not named Monday in military court, where MWO Robar made a brief appearance. But a source told The Globe that the veteran intelligence officer believed he was helping Ukraine in its war against Russia.

OTTAWA – The government is pledging another $235 million in funding for Ukraine, with National Defence Minister David McGuinty and Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand announcing Canada’s latest commitments.

Canada’s Minister of National Defense David J. McGuinty, who took part in the 28th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) and the NATO Defense Ministers meeting in Brussels, announced a new military assistance package for Ukraine.
During a press conference in Ottawa, according to Ukrinform, the minister stressed that among Ukrainians who came to Canada after the invasion, many would like to stay in the country. However, mass granting of permanent residence is not part of the government’s plans:
‘Many Ukrainians want to stay. Given the ongoing war in Ukraine, there are some geostrategic concerns, but I am not ready to grant full permanent residence to all 300,000 Ukrainians,’ said Miller.
According to him, such a step could ‘send a defeatist message about the war in Ukraine’, i.e. demonstrate that Canada accepts the long-term impossibility of people returning to their homeland.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has announced that the procedure for transferring funds derived from proceeds of frozen Russian assets to Ukraine is now being finalised
The study, titled “Russia’s Systematic Program of Coerced Adoption and Fostering of Ukraine’s Children,” found that 166 of the children have already been placed with Russian citizens, spread across 21 states and provinces. At least 67 of them are confirmed to have been naturalized as Russian citizens.
The new missiles are expected to help Russia further its efforts to destroy Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure, which President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said this week now involved 4,000 bombs a month across the country.
