Canada’s former minister of climate grifting on making a change, ‘aloof’ Trudeau and sexism

Canada’s former climate minister on making a change, ‘aloof’ Trudeau and sexism

Imagine there was a truck heading directly for your children. What would you do? Surely everything in your power to save them, including jumping in its way? Catherine McKenna, formerly the Canadian minister for environment and climate change, borrows this analogy for the climate crisis from a colleague to argue that we need to use “all the tools at our disposal” to tackle devastating danger that is already with us.

McKenna has recently published Run Like a Girl, which documents her time in government, among other things. Peppered with inspirational quotes, personal photos and campaign memorabilia, Run Like a Girl isn’t a straightforward memoir. She wrote it for “women and young people who want to make change”.

From Pogrom to Propaganda: Hamas’s Legacy and the Flotilla Fraud

On October 7, 2023, an orgy of slaughter and sexual violence was unleashed on Israeli civilians. It was a measured, premeditated pogrom, broadcast with grotesque pride. The world watched as terrorists streamed their atrocities across social media, turning murder and rape into a live propaganda show.

That day was not merely another episode in the long, tragic history of the Arab-Israeli conflict. It was an operational and moral rupture, a mass atrocity whose reverberations continue to shatter families. The event also exposes an international discourse in which moral clarity too often gives way to equivocation.

Bondfield CEO, hospital executive guilty in $300M St. Michael’s Hospital fraud. Judge cites ‘overwhelming’ evidence

An ex-construction CEO and a former hospital executive have been found guilty of fraud over the competition to win a $300-million renovation contract at Toronto’s downtown St. Michael’s Hospital.

Evidence that Vas Georgiou and John Aquino “acted dishonestly over the procurement process is overwhelming,” Superior Court Justice Peter Bawden said, reading an overview of his 135-page judgment on Tuesday morning.

This is Canada where white collar crime is a past time so these guys will serve 6 mos. tops or as is more likely they’ll never spend a night in jail.

Democrat Jay Jones’ Heinous Texts Get a Scant 63 Seconds on NBC, 0 on ABC/CBS/PBS

If Jay Jones were a Republican, he’d probably be a household name by now.

Imagine if there was a Republican candidate in a hotly contested race that was convicted of reckless driving, caught wishing death on a politician and his family in texts, accused of wanting to see police officers shot, and was called to drop out of the race by the sitting President of the United States?

Creditors circle as cull controversy shines light on B.C. ostrich farmers’ unpaid bills

After chasing debts through the courts, creditors of a high-profile ostrich farm in southeastern B.C. are hoping the Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will help them recoup hundreds of thousands of dollars in the event of a cull.

CFIA wants to destroy more than 300 birds belonging to Universal Ostrich Farms Inc., located in Edgewood, B.C., nearly nearly 100 kilometres east of Kelowna, because of the threat of avian flu, which was detected in some of the animals last December.

Carney and Trump: A Collision Avoided, Save for a Nasty Comment or Two

Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada arrived at the White House on Tuesday with a few clear objectives: to take heat out of his early encounters with President Trump, to avoid references to Canada becoming a 51st state, and to begin talks on steel and aluminum tariffs.

In other words, to revert to the old days, when Canada and the United States were the tightest of defense and intelligence allies, and somehow managed to keep their disputes over everything from dairy products to softwood lumber to automobiles on a separate track.

Jesse Kline: Liberals use accounting magic to mask their fiscal ineptitude

The great magician Harry Houdini once said, “What the eyes see and the ears hear, the mind believes.” This is the philosophy Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberals appear to be utilizing to downplay the dire fiscal situation they have put Canada in.

As the Liberals doubled the size of the national debt during the pandemic, then-finance minister Chrystia Freeland was fond of talking up Canada’s relatively low debt-to-GDP ratio.

‘I don’t feel safe any more’: Dearborn’s Arab Americans on rising Islamophobia

The real Dearborn Michigan

Amirah Sharhan recalls it being a regular fall afternoon in October 2024.

The Yemeni American, who had been living in the Dearborn and Detroit area for four years, was preparing dinner while her mother took Amirah’s seven-year-old daughter, Saida, to a nearby playground to play with her friends.

But when the door of their home slammed open a little after 3pm, everything changed.

Saida rushed in, holding a napkin against her neck. When Amirah moved it away, she saw a long, deep cut across her daughter’s neck. A man had approached her on the playground, grabbed her head and slit her throat with a knife.

Guardian horseshit:

Amirah is convinced her daughter and mother were targeted for being Muslims; the attack happened two days after the first anniversary of Hamas’s terrorist attack on Israel and her grandmother was the only visibly Muslim person in the park.

That the accused was not ultimately charged with committing hate crimes has angered the local Muslim and Arab American communities who have been feeling abandoned and afraid since 7 October 2023.

Canada has been working for years to prepare for Golden Dome, Air Force general says

Canada has been working for years to be ready for an initiative like the U.S.-led Golden Dome defence system, says the Royal Canadian Air Force’s top commander in NORAD, who argues that the two countries have little choice but to work together in the face of a shared, escalating threat from polar attacks.

The commander, Major General J.D. Smyth, told The Globe and Mail that the Air Force has been preparing for the Golden Dome as part of its work to shore up Canada’s military presence in the Arctic and modernize North American air defences.

I bet Carney has the General sidelined.

I don’t think Carney wants anything to do with the USA, all the better for he and his cronies to strip mine the nation of viable assets.

Anthony Furey: Don’t punish Toronto taxpayers for federal asylum-seekers mess

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow recently threatened to increase property taxes by two per cent to cover the increasing costs associated with housing asylum claimants in the city’s shelter system, if she doesn’t first get the funds from the federal government. This would be over and above whatever tax rate increase she was already planning.

This isn’t the right way to go about solving the crisis of so many asylum claimants residing in our shelters, motels and streets. It’s not the taxpayers’ fault.
