Ottawa’s much-touted “Buy Canadian” policy does not require companies to be Canadian-owned, allowing even 100% foreign-owned firms to qualify for federal contracts, according to newly disclosed records.
Blacklock’s Reporter says documents from the Department of Public Works show the definition of a “Canadian supplier” under Prime Minister Mark Carney’s policy is based on operational presence rather than ownership, meaning multinational corporations with a minimal footprint in Canada can still be deemed Canadian.

“Canada remains open to deeper integration,” said Carney, whose government has so far signaled it is in no rush to negotiate a new deal.
“Like Mexico, Canada remains open to deeper integration, including options for fortress North America in (certain) sectors. And to be clear, those offers are on the table,” said the prime minister.

Ford Motor to receive $464M from feds to pivot to F-series production at Oakville plant after EV plans scrapped
The federal government is giving Ford Motor Co. $464.5 million toward retooling its idled Oakville assembly plant to produce heavy-duty F-series gas and diesel-powered trucks.
The funding — mentioned in a federal database for grants and contributions — comes as the Dearborn, Mich.-based auto manufacturer revealed it has increased its own spending on the retooling to $5 billion from $1.8 billion.
The database says the funding agreement, which took effect March 30, runs until 2038.

Government documents reveal barrage of threats against Mark Carney
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney faced near-daily threats over his first 100 days in office, according to newly released government documents that show how a wave of threats against top political leaders carried over from the Justin Trudeau era.
Obtained under the federal Access to Information system, the documents list hundreds of “direct” and “indirect” threats recorded against the prime minister and members of the federal cabinet from 2022 to June 2025. Descriptions of each threat are blacked-out, leaving only the date and the “affected” figure for each one.

Premier Smith tells PM Carney that Albertans, industry getting ‘impatient’
OTTAWA – Standing in his office Friday morning, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith told Prime Minister Mark Carney that Canadians in her province, and industry stakeholders, are “getting a bit impatient” when it comes to plans to get major projects moving.
Speaking about the memorandum of understanding (MOU) – the energy co-operation pact outlining conditions for a new oil pipeline connecting Alberta to the Pacific Coast to proceed – Smith said the two parties have “had some really constructive conversations.”
But now, she has told Carney that “if we’re going to move forward with that MOU, I hope it happens in the next number of days.”

Ottawa suggests letting cabinet green-light pipelines before technical assessments happen
The federal government is proposing reversing the order of pipeline approvals, allowing cabinet to green-light a new project prior to the completion of technical assessments and approvals.
The proposed changes come less than two months before Alberta is expected to submit a proposal for a new pipeline to the west coast.
The idea of switching the order of the approval process by giving it first to cabinet and then to the civil service for a technical review is included in a sweeping set of proposals released by Ottawa on Friday.

Liberals restore bill containing incoming Uber Woke GG’s recommendation for Canada’s military
On the same day the prime minister named Louise Arbour as Canada’s next governor general, the Liberals voted to restore proposed legislation to move ahead with Arbour’s key recommendation for the country’s military.
The bill before parliament would put into law Arbour’s 2022 recommendation to strip the Canadian Armed Forces of the power to investigate and prosecute sexual offences, leaving that to civilian authorities instead.
The Liberals voted on Tuesday to drop a Conservative amendment to the bill that would have given victims of sexual offences the right to choose whether their cases are tried by the military or civilian judicial system.
