Iran Was Losing. Then Washington Gave It Time. But What about the Kitchen Table?

Military superiority rarely decides wars against regimes that measure victory by survival. The Islamic Republic of Iran, since its Islamic Revolution in 1979, has been refining this distinction.

By the first week of April, Iran was losing. Its naval fleet was on the seabed, its aircraft grounded, and American and Israeli aircraft were operating in Iranian skies unopposed. Washington then began granting extensions. Five months later, the Iranian regime is still setting conditions rather than receiving them.

US military disables ad trackers on troops’ phones amid security fears

US military officials say they have disabled advertising trackers on a range of phones and computers, according to letters released on Friday by the US senator Ron Wyden and statements given to Reuters.

The development follows reports that commercially available location data had been used to target American forces in the Middle East.

The air force told Wyden it disabled the advertising identifiers on computers and mobile phones two months ago. US Special Operations Command said in a separate letter that it had “recently” disabled them on its Windows devices. The army told Reuters that advertising IDs tied to mobile devices had been disabled since earlier this year.

Olivia Chow opts out of antisemitism debate says – she’s doing her share

Olivia Chow won’t attend a Toronto mayoral debate next week about antisemitism and other public safety concerns, her team has confirmed.

The decision could serve as fodder for critics who have accused the incumbent mayor of not taking anti-Jewish hate seriously, and marks the latest challenge Chow has faced in navigating local concerns about antisemitism in the wake the Israel-Gaza war. Chow has rejected accusations she hasn’t done enough to combat intolerance, and her campaign said Thursday she would continue to work with the Jewish community to fight antisemitism.

ChatGPT Says Trump Is Greatest Threat to Democracy Since Hitler

OpenAI responded to MRC’s findings, claiming that what MRC found “shouldn’t happen and is not how the model is trained to behave.” ChatGPT is “designed to be objective by default,” according to an OpenAI spokesperson. The AI company did not deny MRC’s findings. Click here to read more.

AI models count President Donald Trump as among the greatest threats to democracy, putting him just a small step below Hitler—but only because American institutions have “constrained” him.

Vincent Geloso: A century ago, Canada tried tariff retaliation. It did nothing

Vincent Geloso: A century ago, Canada tried tariff retaliation. It did nothing

In 1928, Warner Bros released Lights of New York — the first full-length feature film with audible dialogue. That same year, another drama was unfolding. Republican Herbert Hoover won the presidential election by promising higher tariffs on goods imported into the United States.

Nearly a century later, protectionism seems to be back on the screen. The actors have changed, but the script has not. In fact, for Canadians, it’s just a rerun of a bad movie with a clear lesson: counter-tariffs don’t do squat!

John Carpay: Hamilton mayor, police violate Charter in crusade against anti-immigration group

The mayor and police in Hamilton, Ont., have decided that some Canadians have the wrong kind of opinions and should not be allowed to rent public facilities.

Last week, Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath declared that the Dominion Society is not entitled to rent city-owned property to hold a conference. The predictable result was to force the group to seek a private venue in which to hold its meeting.

If This Is Best Counter for ‘Guns Don’t Kill,’ We Have Nothing to Worry About

The gun debate is one of those things where both sides are trying to take advantage. I’d call it a game if the stakes weren’t so high. Both sides make arguments, and the other side tries to punch holes in them.

This is reasonable and natural, even if I don’t like how the other side carries out their part.

Still, fair is fair, I suppose, and free speech means they have a right to say idiotic things. That’s just how it has to be.

Canada lost 42,000 jobs in August, StatsCan says

Canada lost 42,000 jobs in August, Statistics Canada said Friday, contrary to economists’ expectations, while the unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.4 per cent.

Statistics Canada said the number of public sector workers fell by 20,000, declining for a third consecutive month. Jobs were little-changed in the private sector.

By region, Quebec was hardest hit, losing 19,000 jobs. Ontario followed with a loss of 18,000.

Statcan’s reporting is suspect as told only weeks ago…

Canada’s Job Market Is Booming If You Ignore Population Revisions

Canada’s economy is booming, as long as you ignore the actual data and upcoming revisions. Statistics Canada’s (StatCan) latest Labour Force Survey (LFS) shows seasonally adjusted employment climbed by 75,000 jobs in July. The unseasoned reality was a little less savoury, showing a 6-digit decline in the same month, along with rising unemployment. The picture may be even worse than presented, with a Big Six bank projecting substantial upward revisions to population estimates in just a few weeks.

The Left is gaslighting you about Abdul el Sayed’s 9/11 posts

In the United States, there are numerous criminal actions that will earn you a deserved spot among the lowest of the low. Beyond the world of law enforcement, however, there are other social and cultural wrongdoings that in this country, you just don’t do, or else risk the dreaded backlash.

This week, CBS’s Bari Weiss apparently committed the worst of all these social crimes, and her victim was Abdul el Sayed.

Yuan Yi Zhu: Carney’s contemptuous jaunt to EU Parliament before Canada’s

When Germany invaded Poland on Sept. 1, 1939, Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King reacted by immediately recalling Parliament, which was not due to sit for another month, and ask for its blessing before declaring war on Germany. On the first day of the special session, King tabled copies of documents relative to the outbreak of the war, so that the House of Commons would know the basis on which war was being declared.

With luck he’ll stay there.

Lindsay Clancy judge to declare mistrial — but grants lawyer Hail Mary bid to appeal

PLYMOUTH, Mass. – A judge is set to declare a mistrial in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial Friday on the seventh day of deliberations — but gave her defiant lawyer just one hour to file an emergency appeal against the ruling.

The 12-person jury – made up of nine women and three men – told Judge William Sullivan that they could not agree on whether to convict Clancy, 36, of three counts of first-degree murder.

What did she see? The intelligence scramble to retrace an accused spy’s footsteps

Several Western intelligence agencies were sent scrambling this summer to figure out what — if anything — of value an accused Canadian spy managed to access during internships at multiple agencies and government departments.

Biwei Zhang, a Canadian intern at NATO military’s headquarters in Mons, Belgium, was arrested by Belgian authorities in July on suspicion of espionage and communicating with a foreign crime entity. She has been held in pretrial detention since being taken into custody and was this week denied an appeal for release.

How vulnerable is Germany’s infrastructure?

How vulnerable is Germany’s infrastructure?

On Tuesday morning, unknown perpetrators attempted to attack the power supply near the coal-fired power plant at Jänschwalde in the eastern state of Brandenburg, partly succeeding in their objective. Then, later the same evening, a substation near Cologne suffered a disruption in what is believed to have been an act of sabotage.

On Wednesday, an explosion occurred near the railway station in the Bavarian city of Augsburg, caused by a hand grenade, according to investigators.
