How vulnerable is Germany’s infrastructure?

On Tuesday morning, unknown perpetrators attempted to attack the power supply near the coal-fired power plant at Jänschwalde in the eastern state of Brandenburg, partly succeeding in their objective. Then, later the same evening, a substation near Cologne suffered a disruption in what is believed to have been an act of sabotage.

On Wednesday, an explosion occurred near the railway station in the Bavarian city of Augsburg, caused by a hand grenade, according to investigators.

Dad stabbed to death in front of his toddler at Starbucks for asking stranger to stop smoking weed… now Canadian judge has let killer off lightly

A Canadian man who fatally stabbed a father in front of his three-year-old daughter has been convicted of manslaughter rather than second-degree murder.

British Columbia Supreme Court Justice Kathleen Ker made the shocking decision on Wednesday in the trial of Inderdeep Singh Gosal, 34, who has admitted to stabbing Paul Schmidt, 37, six times in the torso and neck on March 26, 2023, CTV News reports.

But surveillance footage from the scene proved Schmidt was the initial aggressor, Ker ruled, saying the victim was ‘sinewy, agile and able’ and he ‘readily adopted a fighting stance’ while starting the physical altercation outside a downtown Vancouver Starbucks by ‘quickly advancing on Mr Gosal.’

Randall Denley: It’s not worth a trade war to save Ontario’s foreign-owned car plants

The future of Ontario’s auto sector has become a major sticking point in trade negotiations with the U.S. For Ontario Premier Doug Ford, auto parts and manufacturing must be preserved at all costs.

It’s easy to see why Ford, elected on a promise of job protection, would champion the highly visible auto sector, but is this the right battle to fight?

Blundering Canadian officials gave millions of taxpayer cash to son of Iranian vice president who helped Islamic Republic develop MISSILES

Canadian officials shelled out millions of dollars worth of contracts to the son of a former Iranian vice president even as they were investigating allegations he helped develop missile systems for the Islamic Republic.

Mohammad Reza Ghafouri Fard, 45, founded two companies in Alberta, Edmonton under the name ‘Sal Ghafouri’ that have received more than $2 million Canadian dollars [$1,446,370] in federal contracts, including from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Department of National Defense, Global News reports.

He was even reportedly part of an official Canadian trade mission to Latin America, received a federal business grant and was invited to ‘propose legislation’ to the Alberta government.

Saab intensifies pitch to sell Gripen jets to Canada, promising assortment of benefits

In the final-assembly hall for the Saab Gripen fighter jet in the Swedish city of Linkoping, the flags of Saab’s eight customer countries hang above the production line. A ninth spot holds a white banner reading, in red capital letters, RESERVED.

Asked whether it was for Canada, a Saab official smiled, shrugged and said nothing.

Behind the scenes, though, Saab is pulling out all the stops in order to put Canada’s name on the banner.

HANNAFORD: ‘Elbows up’ diplomacy — Carney’s fake ‘trade war’ with Trump is alienating Canadian voters

HANNAFORD: ‘Elbows up’ diplomacy — Carney’s fake ‘trade war’ with Trump is alienating Canadian voters

So, the acrimonious end of trade negotiations was the electoral blessing for Mr. Carney that it was widely expected to be, right? Three by-election wins, each delivering more than 50% of the vote to the Liberals, including a surprise flip of a Conservative seat and the whole event giving the prime minister an absolute majority of one in the House of Commons.

School officials in Detroit will pay even more kids thousands of dollars to attend school

School officials in Detroit will pay even more kids thousands of dollars to attend school

The Detroit public school system is almost entirely a non-white student body; US News puts the portion of white students at 2.4%, blacks at 80.8%, Hispanics at 14.5%, and the rest a mix. Naturally, based on that demographic make-up alone, you know the dysfunction is rampant. So, it should come as no surprise that Detroit public schools have a severe truancy problem—last year, a Michigan outlet reported that more than half of the public school kids “regularly miss class,” noting that “chronic absenteeism” is a persistent problem.
