he European Union has committed €11.1 million to four research projects that examine how right-wing movements use ideas about gender to attract young men, according to the European Commission’s own grants database.
Three of the four were awarded under a single 2024 call, titled “Gender-roles in extremist movements and their impact on democracy”, which sat inside the Horizon Europe cluster on culture, creativity and inclusive society.

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) is on the verge of leading a state government for the first time in history. According to the preliminary results announced on Monday morning, the AfD achieved 43.8 per cent in the state election of Saxony-Anhalt, more than doubling their voter share compared to the previous election in the state in 2021.
Meanwhile, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the party of chancellor Friedrich Merz, lost 20 per cent and fell to 17.2. The election result from Sunday is not only damaging to the CDU, but to all historically established parties in Germany. They might not be able to prevent the AfD from governing for the first time.

As most Canadians are aware, Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario “Lake America,” the latest in his meme obsessed attempts to wage psychological war on Canadians. The move elicited a range of reactions across Canada, from defiance to bewilderment to laughter at the move.

Movie mogul David Ellison has been observing the virtual darkness menacing Hollywood, and is taking steps to rebuild elsewhere.
Entertainment industry luminaries are going berserk over the looming Ellison merger of Paramount and Warner Bros studios. As usual with them, for all the wrong reasons. They warn about the resultant reduced production, fewer jobs, less competition (four major studios instead of five), and that Ellison may move the entire conglomerate out of Los Angeles. Which some astute insiders see as a good thing, given what the recent studio regimes and political leaders have done to the physical location and its workers.
It wasn’t that long ago when Hollywood’s decline would have been considered a national tragedy.

Canada seems to have inadvertently slid into negotiations toward a new trade “deal” – essentially legitimizing U.S. tariffs and effectively destroying or, at the very least, sidelining the USMCA.
Have we allowed our normally calm demeanour to be penetrated by the rantings of a mercurial President? Or, have we perhaps been skilfully maneuvered into sabotaging our own free trade agreement by an expert trade negotiator?

On the morning of September 11, 2002, I was crossing Midtown Manhattan as the clock neared the moment, one year earlier, when the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Along the way, I watched construction workers slowly put down their tools and join pedestrians lining the sidewalks. By 8:46 am, I had reached Grand Central Terminal. In its great hall, where hundreds of people are normally in constant motion, travelers stopped and stood silently beneath the massive domed ceiling. The familiar buzz of Manhattan vanished. The stillness lasted only a few moments before people began moving again, as New Yorkers always do.

The US and Israeli military conflict with Iran, which began on February 28 and does not appear to have come to an end, was a complete failure for both the United States and Israel. If this has not yet been recognized by everyone because the current US administration needs to portray itself as victorious for the midterm elections, it is nevertheless important to see this reality.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be working royals allowed to carry out official engagements now they have returned to the UK, a letter sent on behalf of King Charles spells out.
The letter is intended to clarify the status of Prince Harry and Meghan, who moved back from California with children Archie and Lilibet last month.
They will still not be able to use titles of “His and Her Royal Highness”, and remain “private citizens”, says the letter sent on behalf of the King by the Lord Chamberlain, a top Palace official.
President Donald Trump said that Canada-based aircraft manufacturer Bombardier will no longer be allowed to sell in the United States as the trade tiff with Canada continues to escalate.
Trump posted on Truth Social about the company on Sunday afternoon. Bombardier is one of the world’s biggest producers of business jets, and Trump said that the company would have to build in the U.S. if it wants access to U.S. markets.
