Carney Liberals maintain 9-point lead over Conservatives heading into late summer

OTTAWA — With only weeks left in the summer, the Mark Carney Liberals are holding onto their nine-point lead against the Pierre Poilievre Conservatives.

That’s according to Liaison Strategies’ latest federal tracker poll, released Monday, which shows Canada’s political landscape barrelling through the dog days of summer, with the opinions of decided voters largely unchanged from previous weeks.

Spanish socialist politician called to replace ‘racists’ with migrants and vowed to ensure they were allowed to vote months before 60,000 Moroccans invaded Ceuta

A video has emerged of a Spanish socialist politician calling to replace Spanish ‘racists’ and ‘fascists’ with migrants, vowing to ensure they would be allowed to vote only months before 60,000 migrants invaded Ceuta.

Irene Montero, the former Spanish Minister of Equality and member of the hard-left Podemos party appeared in a video from earlier this year pleading for support from ‘migrants’ and ‘people of colour.’

‘Please don’t leave us alone with all these fascists. We absolutely want you to vote. We’ve managed to get you papers, and now we want regularisation.

He was an aspiring rapper just getting his life together …

Two men cross paths inside a Toronto restaurant. Both are armed. Both are with friends.

Within minutes, the encounter escalates. Bullets fly inside the eatery on St. Clair Avenue West. A 23-year-old named Nakhari Henry-Robinson is killed.

Civilian who shot back at In-N-Out gunman reveals how he began self-defense training after another tragic shooting

The armed civilian who’s been praised for his ‘heroic act’ of returning fire on the In-N-Out gunman in Idaho said he began self-defense training five years ago after another deadly shooting.

Jordan Salinas, 35, was headed out for a horseback riding date with his girlfriend on Saturday afternoon when he was suddenly faced with putting the techniques he had learned to use.

He pulled into the restaurant’s parking lot around 2.30pm, around the same time that Chad Williams, 24, opened fire on innocent people with an AR-style rifle, cops said.

Are there climate benefits to Canada’s new relationship with China asks Beijing’s Ottawa News Bureau?

Are there climate benefits to Canada’s new relationship with China asks Beijing’s Ottawa News Bureau?

When Canada announced earlier this year that it would allow a token number of Chinese-made electric vehicles into the country, the gesture didn’t seem so much about climate action as a sop to ease Chinese tariffs on Canadian canola.

Now, it very much appears like the opening gambit in a deeper engagement with China on clean energy. Following up on Prime Minister Mark Carney’s momentous meeting with Chinese Premier Xi Jinping in January, Industry Minister Melanie Joly was in Beijing last month to discuss the feasibility of Canadian-Chinese EV ventures.

Meanwhile, the Canada China Business Council is organizing a cleantech mission to China in Beijing in November.

The CBC is owned by China now.

Ceuta leader accuses Morocco over ‘atrocity’ of mass border crossing

Ceuta leader accuses Morocco over ‘atrocity’ of mass border crossing

A growing chorus of voices have accused Morocco of helping to fuel the crisis in Ceuta, with the leader of the Spanish enclave describing last week’s border crossings as an attack on Spain’s territorial integrity that was seen as being “if not orchestrated, at least encouraged or permitted by Morocco”.

Spain’s interior ministry said late last week that 48,300 of the roughly 50,000 people who had turned up in Ceuta, a tiny Spanish territory in north Africa, had been sent back to Morocco. The extraordinary influx had overwhelmed the city of 84,000 and set off a political crisis across the EU as some member states laid blame on Spain.

‘Generation of moderation’ no more: Gen Zers drink as much as the rest of society, report shows

Gen Z isn’t the teetotalling generation after all, according to new data. They just took some time to catch up to the rest of the drinking population, and their influence is reshaping the alcohol industry.

As a larger proportion of gen Zers reaches legal drinking age, the gap between them and drinkers at large “appears to have almost completely disappeared.” The report from IWSR, a leading alcohol data provider, dispels the myth that younger people imbibe less.

Canada built its nuclear industry to avoid foreign fuel. Its new reactors will depend on it

The first reactors in Canada’s planned nuclear expansion will depend on foreign suppliers — including the United States — to enrich and fabricate their fuel, even as Prime Minister Mark Carney argues Canadian sovereignty depends on the country’s ability to supply and control its own energy.

It marks a sharp departure from the Candu reactor system, which gave Canada — the world’s second-largest uranium producer — a largely domestic nuclear supply chain for more than half a century.
