Switzerland’s radical proposal on immigration: Cap the population

Switzerland’s radical proposal on immigration: Cap the population

ZUG, Switzerland—This Alpine nation has long relied on its geography to keep the world at bay. But with its valleys filling up, some here are pushing to replace natural barriers with something even more unyielding: a population cap.

Disgruntled by rising living costs and disillusioned by unfulfilled economic and social promises, the Swiss are at the vanguard of industrialized countries questioning the benefits of immigration, even the high-skilled workers many vie to attract. On Sunday, they will vote in a referendum to put a hard ceiling on the country’s population.

Since 2000, the number of foreign-born residents has jumped from around one in five to one in three—the second-highest level among rich countries next to tiny Luxembourg, and compared with one in six in the U.S. That represents an enormous demographic shift for a small, mountainous country.

SpaceX IPO makes Elon Musk the first trillionaire. Here’s how to properly hate him

Now that the SpaceX initial public offering has made Elon Musk all but officially the world’s first trillionaire, is it okay to despise him just for being one? To broaden the question, are the billionaires associated with widening inequality a bad look for capitalism?

There are competing schools of thought about the accumulation of wealth, among them the anarchist claim that “property is theft” and the Gordon Gekko theory of greed as a star-spangled virtue.

Trump fumes over ‘fake’ peace deal terms leaked by Iran

Trump fumes over ‘fake’ peace deal terms leaked by Iran

President Donald Trump claimed that the ceasefire terms reported by Iranian state media on Friday were “fake news” and denied offering any monetary compensation to Tehran to secure its cooperation in ending the war.

Iranian state media began circulating a 14-point ceasefire agreement Friday morning that included more than $300 billion being paid out to Iran. Some of that, $24 billion, was Iranian assets frozen by international banking institutions, while the remaining $300 billion was to be paid by the United States as reparations for damage caused by months of airstrikes.

Trump is unlikely to rip up CUSMA, his trade deal with Canada and Mexico. Here’s why

Despite U.S. President Donald Trump once again flexing his power to scrap his country’s free trade deal with Canada and Mexico, there’s plenty of reason to doubt he would actually follow through on such a threat.

Trump signed the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) in his first term and at the time boasted of it as “the most modern, up-to-date, and balanced trade agreement in the history of our country.”

Has the US really carried out a secret mission to get oil through Hormuz?

Has the US really carried out a secret mission to get oil through Hormuz?

Donald Trump has claimed that the US has been conducting a “secret mission” in the strait of Hormuz to help Gulf petrostates bypass Iran’s chokehold on oil flows – which has roiled global energy markets for months.

In televised comments from the Oval Office on Wednesday, the president claimed Iran was unaware that dozens of tankers had been escorted out of the blockaded channel at night with their transmitters off.

He later wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform that 200 vessels had got out this way, transporting more than 100m barrels of oil to global buyers.

So what is actually going on?

Canada hellbent on … eliminating Canadians

Canada hellbent on … eliminating Canadians

According to LifeSiteNews, Ontario doctor James MacLean was given just six months’ probation by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) for scoping out and assessing a man outside a Tim Hortons coffeehouse and then personally driving him to his medically assisted death by fatal injection. He will be allowed to continue to practice under state supervision for those six months and after that is free to do what he does.

Instances of euthanasia — solicited, coerced, and delivered without permission — are becoming ever more common in the Great White North.

Adam Zivo: British socialists fracture over Islamic homophobia

British progressives were scandalized last week when 5Pillars, a prominent Muslim news organization known for supporting the U.K. Green Party, published a homophobic “guide” on navigating Pride month. The incident laid bare the intellectual and moral incoherence of Islamo-left alliance, providing a useful case study for Canadians who feel anxious about Muslim-led intolerance.

Taliban hunt down women who flouted hijab ban

Taliban hunt down women who flouted hijab ban

The Taliban are hunting down women who took part in rare anti-hijab protests in Afghanistan, The Telegraph can reveal.

Residents said authorities were carrying out door-to-door raids across Herat to track down Afghans who appeared in videos of the demonstrations, which took place on Tuesday.

At least two people, including a 14-year-old boy, were killed when security forces opened fire on protesters gathered in Herat to demonstrate against mandatory hijab orders.

The protests erupted in response to a Taliban directive ordering women to wear a “proper hijab” – defined as having the face and body completely covered with only the eyes visible. Women found violating the rule face unspecified punitive measures, the directive said.

Video footage verified by the Telegraph shows Taliban fighters violently suppressing anti-government protests. The clips show Taliban fighters striking protesters with large sticks and batons.

Raid that left Toronto police officer dead tied to wider shooters-for-hire probe

An early-morning police raid that left a Toronto police officer dead, and that targeted suspects linked to a shooting at the U.S. consulate in the city, is connected to a wider probe into a network of shooters-for-hire.

A source with knowledge of this investigation said this network is also responsible for shooting at buildings that belong to Canadian waste giant GFL Environmental, as well as private residences and tow-truck companies.

This means they won’t have to embarrass their Islamist pals by calling it terrorism.

Just like they covered up the Danforth shooter claiming it wasn’t a Muslim terror attack and we should not believe our lying eyes.
