Fire personnel who responded to a Michigan house fire found eight people, including six children, dead inside the residence, some with gunshot wounds, authorities said Friday.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jake Sparks called the scene “complicated” and “complex” amid the ongoing investigation into the deaths.
A Canadian woman of Chinese origin who was an intern at NATO’s military headquarters in Belgium has been arrested on spying charges, Belgian prosecutors said Saturday.

The Iranian-backed Houthis have claimed a missile attack on Saudi Arabia, after Riyadh launched strikes on targets linked to the group on Friday.
Early on Saturday, the Houthis’ Ansarollah media said on Telegram that a “Yemeni missile strike” had caused fires in the Saudi city of Jizan. Saudi authorities had issued emergency alerts for the province.
The group had vowed retaliation after Saudi Arabia launched air strikes on Houthi targets in the Yemeni port city of Hodeida and a nearby island on Friday.

French investigating judges have added racism as an aggravating circumstance to the cases against all the suspects formally investigated over the 2023 killing of 16-year-old Thomas Perotto.
The decision, announced on Thursday, July 23rd, comes more than two and a half years after the fatal attack at the village’s winter dance in Crépol, in south-eastern France.
According to a source close to the investigation, the judges amended the charges after considering around 10 witness statements reporting remarks hostile to white people at the end of the dance, including: “We’re here to stab white people.”

The latest salvo in US President Donald Trump’s freewheeling trade war could have disastrous effects for Canadian business. But the new tariff threats may also open up trade opportunities elsewhere, with China and the EU in a strong position to benefit.
Trump’s planned 50% tariff on a range of imported goods ranges from wine to hockey sticks but does not include other key sectors such as energy, potash and fish.
It is expected to impact about 5%, or $20 billion (€17.5 billion) worth, of goods and “the impact could be devastating for the people in businesses involved,” Julian Karaguesian, an economics lecturer from Canada’s McGill University, told DW.
