To the cries of a crowd of 30,000 in Kabul’s Olympic Stadium in Afghanistan, a panicked woman is led across the football pitch, flanked by armed guards.

As they approach the goalposts, it is another woman similarly dressed in a blue burqa who forces the 35-year-old on to her knees on the edge of the penalty area, surrounded by Taliban soldiers.

A man thought to be her brother-in-law quickly raises a Kalashnikov to her head and the sound of the 7.62mm bullet ricochets through the stadium. The woman slumps to the ground.

Illegal migrants living in taxpayer funded hotels are being handed free condoms by the National Health Service, the Daily Express can reveal. The news comes just days after it was this paper exposed the home office was teaching migrants not rape women.

Now it has emerged that contraceptives are sent to hotels housing immigrants at no cost to them by local health authorities. NHS England confirmed that they provided free condoms to all asylum seekers living on the taxpayers coin as part of their usual services. But critics rounded on the policy with campaigners calling it a ridiculous waste of money and urging the government to stop it.

However brilliant the young Owen Cooper was in his portrayal of a troubled boy who had stabbed a female classmate, however compelling the script, Adolescence was a work of fiction. Yet here was the minister responsible for tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG), treating this tale of a murderous, manosphere-obsessed schoolboy like a piece of academic research.

48 researchers were poached from the US, where policy changes have left scientists feeling unsupported.

Canada has awarded 64 global scholars with C$504 million (US$362 million) in funding to relocate their work to Canadian universities and advance projects in areas such as health and artificial intelligence.

Some 48 of the researchers were poached from the US, including from elite institutions such as Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The other 16 researchers are coming from 12 other countries, including the UK, Germany, China and Japan.

My annual visit to the land of my childhood and youth exposed me to a culture very different from the one that nurtured me. Growing up as a grammar schoolboy in 1970s and ’80s England, I absorbed the importance of personal restraint; emotional self-control in public; privacy; acting with honesty and fairness, even to one’s own hurt; and respecting others regardless of their social status or opinions. At the level of society, such personal values promoted freedoms—of speech, of religion, of expression. All of that is gone, at least from the class that presumes to define the country’s mores and morals.
