Experimental US weapon test blamed for crashing medical plane and killing four Americans

A US military GPS-jamming exercise has been linked to a medevac plane crash that killed four people in the mountains of New Mexico.

The twin-engine Beechcraft King Air was flying from Roswell to Ruidoso in early May to collect a patient when its pilots suddenly lost access to their modern navigation systems.

It was a clear, nearly moonless night, leaving the crew with few visual references as they flew over the dark and sparsely populated landscape.

Over 4,000 charges laid in retail theft probe involving ‘repeat and prolific offenders’: Toronto police

The thefts are shockingly brazen. Videos shared by Toronto police on Wednesday show multiple suspects walking into stores, loading up bags, suitcases and shopping carts with items and walking out, seemingly without fear of consequence.

Despite the cavalier nature of the alleged crimes, there were indeed consequences.

Toronto police announced over 500 arrests and 4,000 charges in a years-long, ongoing retail theft probe that Supt. Ron Taverner said involves “repeat and prolific offenders” with ties to larger organized crime groups.

Afghan Suspect in Death of British Woman was Migrant Featured in Red Cross Animation

The 26-year-old Afghan man who confessed to dumping the remains of a dead British woman in Greece has been identified as boxer and migrant Sharif Ahmadzai.

Ahmadzai, whose identity was disclosed by local and international outlets, reportedly arrived through a migrant boat on the Greek island of Lesbos in 2016. His story as a migrant was the center of an animation published by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IRFC) nine years ago.

PC support has slipped in wake of MPP expenses scandal: poll

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has seen his popularity dip in the wake of an MPP expense scandal but the total impact appears to be “marginal rather than transformational,” a new survey suggests.

Abacus Data surveyed 1,000 Ontario adults on behalf of the Toronto Star from July 23 to July 29.

It found that support for the PCs among committed voters has fallen from 42 per cent to 40 per cent when compared to a similar survey that was conducted in June.

MOUNT VERNON, New York (WABC) — Mount Vernon’s deputy commissioner of public safety was arrested for allegedly being the getaway driver for her son, who is accused of shooting at a rival gang member earlier this summer.

Jennifer Lackard, 49, and her son, 20-year-old Chase Lackard, were arrested at their home on Boynton Avenue on Tuesday morning.

Her son, who is an alleged gang member, is accused of opening fire from a vehicle on June 29 behind the Bronx Criminal Courthouse at East 162nd Street and Grand Avenue.

A drone carrying an explosive device has been found at a German airport, police say.

A robot was deployed at Leipzig/Halle Airport after the device was spotted by an employee near Ukrainian cargo planes overnight, according to Saxony police.

A second unidentified object collided with a cargo aircraft near the same airport. Minor damage was detected on the aircraft after it landed in Hanover.

U.S. antisemitism envoy calls on Canada to restrict visas, expand terrorism listings

OTTAWA – U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoy for fighting antisemitism is urging Canada to revoke visas and expand terrorism listings to curb the rise of anti-Jewish hatred.

Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun, who spent seven years of his childhood in Ottawa, was appointed last December as U.S. special envoy to monitor and combat antisemitism, an ambassador-rank position.

“My message is to Canada, you need to do better,” Kaploun told The Canadian Press last week during a visit to Ottawa.

A row has broken out at the Tour de France Femmes following allegations that some riders are artificially exaggerating their bust size to gain a “bra booster” aerodynamic advantage for Tuesday’s time trial.

According to WielerFlits, a leading cycling news platform in the Netherlands and Belgium, “several” women’s WorldTour teams have raised concerns that riders are padding their bras to “fake” a larger cup size.

Calls emerge for U.S. refugee status as group helps Jewish families flee Canada

OTTAWA — A former Ontario man and a Conservative U.S. think tank are encouraging the Trump administration to offer refugee status to Jewish Canadians who feel threatened by rising antisemitism here.

“With the urgency around the challenges and the inaction we see in Canada, an asylum pathway makes sense,” said Joe Roberts, the executive director of Jewish Tulsa, a group that has helped welcome Jews like himself to the Oklahoma city.

Roberts said thousands of Canadian Jews are seeking to escape constant fear over the firebombing of Jewish schools, temples and businesses.

Federal authorities have released the mugshot of a man caught with an illegal rifle and body armor while allegedly scouting President Donald Trump’s Los Angeles golf club ahead of his visit this week.

Jeanine John Taele, 38, was charged by the Justice Department with with possessing an unregistered short-barreled rifle after his arrest Saturday at Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles in Rancho Palos Verdes.

If convicted, the felony charge carries a minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison.

Carney government moves toward listing West Coast pipeline as national interest project

The federal government is advancing the process to designate Alberta’s proposed oil pipeline to the West Coast as a project of national interest.

A notice published in the Canada Gazette on Aug. 1 marks the start of a notice period to designate the potential pipeline as a project of national interest under Bill C-5.

That law requires the government to launch the 30-day notice period and consult with the government of the province or territory in which the project will be carried out before listing it under Schedule 1 as a project of national interest.
