Movie lovers tonight hit out at protesters who called for a film about Islam and the daughter of the prophet Muhammed to be banned because they feel it is blasphemous.

Cinema goers said everyone should be able to see the £12million movie, which was released in the UK last weekend, because shutting it down prevents discussion and instead fuels intolerance.

Hundreds of demonstrators turned out in Bradford, Bolton, Birmingham and Sheffield to protest venues showing The Lady of Heaven.

Earlier this week, the Guardian ran a report on the government’s counter-terrorism programme, the Prevent strategy, titled “Anti-terrorism programme must keep focus on far right, say experts”. It was based on experts’ concern over the anticipated direction of the strategy review, which, according to leaked documents, reportedly recommends “a crackdown on Islamist extremism rather than the threat of the far right”. 

Fears of discrimination, a failure to deal with unruly prisoners, and an unwillingness on the part of prison administrators to address religious demands have created an environment in Britain’s jails that have become “no go zones” for non-Muslims.

These stark findings come from a recently published report: Terrorism in Prisons from the independent reviewer of terrorist legislation Jonathan Hall QC.

The report states that Islamist inmates, over the course of fifteen years, have adopted an “anti-state Islamist stance” that condones violence towards non-Muslim inmates, prison staff, and the general public.

A Birmingham man contacted a police officer posing as a Muslim convert and sent her extreme material including videos glorifying the Islamic State group. Musa Muhammad claimed he wanted to marry the officer and go and fight in the Middle East.

The government does not record the number of people prosecuted for terror offences after returning to the UK from Syria, an official report says.

The data is held neither “officially or unofficially”, an annual review by the independent reviewer of terrorism legislation, Jonathan Hall QC, says.

Figures previously provided to Parliament by ministers later had to be clarified.

Mr Hall’s report instead relies on BBC News research on the subject.

Last year, the director general of MI5 said “over 950 UK-linked extremists” had travelled to Syria.

The prison service has failed to recognise the dangers Islamist gangs and convicted terrorists pose inside jail, a report warns.

The independent reviewer of terrorist legislation, Jonathan Hall QC, said prisons must not provide opportunities for militants to plan new attacks.

But the service had “lost its role in the national endeavour to reduce the risk of terrorism”.

A preacher at several London mosques, Masroor, however, has a long history of apologism for terrorist groups and anti-Jewish sentiments.

Writing in 2012, Masroor praised the leader of the designated terrorist organization Hamas as a “true and honest leader” who is apparently “loved by his people naturally.”
