Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, set to meet Monday with his COVID-19 steering committee amid an alarming rise in cases, has suggested more restrictions are coming but a “holistic” approach to the pandemic will continue.

CRA warns 213,000 Canadians that they might have to pay back CERB overpayments
“The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has issued letters to individuals who may have applied for the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) from both Service Canada and the CRA, and who may be required to repay an amount to the CRA,” a CRA spokesperson said in an email. “The letters did not require immediate payment; rather they informed the taxpayer that there may be a requirement to repay amounts received.
Walmart Thanks Government For Completely Obliterating Their Small Business Competition
In an open letter addressed to state officials, Walmart leadership expressed gratefulness to the government for inflating their sales and stock prices while completely pulverizing their small business competition.
“Yeah, we know 2020 has been tough for the little people,” said one board member while shoveling piles of cash into his vault. “But it’s been super great for us! No longer do we have to worry about the baker down the street or the family-owned hardware store next door taking away some of our business. The government just blew them up! Calgary cops arresting COVID-19 patients who refuse to isolate
The Calgary Police Service has started up rounding up people with COVID-19 who are refusing to isolate with the virus.
The CPS is using certificates from the Alberta Health Services for the detentions.
Arrested people are taken to hospital where they are put in isolation.

Ontario is reporting a record number of new cases of COVID-19 just as Toronto and Peel enter a lockdown to control the rapid spread of the virus.

The global response to the Covid-19 crisis has had little impact on the continued rise in atmospheric concentrations of CO2, says the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
Carbon emissions fell dramatically in 2020 due to lockdowns that saw transport and industry grind to a halt.

Toronto and Peel Region begin 28-day lockdown
Toronto and Peel Region have entered the lockdown stage of Ontario’s pandemic protection plan.
It means that for at least the next 28 days, non-essential retailers can only offer curbside pickup, while restaurants are closed to all but takeout and delivery orders in the two COVID-19 hot spots.
The rent subsidy will help some businesses, but for many it will be too late.
Individuals are reportedly avoiding testing because a positive puts them at real risk of job loss.

Leon’s received almost $30 million in government Covid handouts — now it’s posting record profits
…Leon’s didn’t discover a gold mine under its North York head office, but it did identify another treasure, courtesy of the federal government: The Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) — which generated a $29.8 million windfall for the furniture company.
The CEWS program provides eligible companies with a 75 per cent subsidy for salaries for both active employees and those laid off and rehired. While firms were encouraged by the government to immediately rehire employees let go when the pandemic hit, this was not a binding condition for receiving funds.
