So it’s business as usual then … CBC reportedly considering dropping requirement for journalistic objectivity

CBC is reportedly considering dropping an age-old requirement for its reporters to be objective — at least for those from a visible minority group.

The revelation was shared this week in an editorial by the Quebec newspaper La Presse. Senior editor François Cardinal wrote that CBC was considering an internal demand by its reporters that the broadcaster abandon its current standards requiring reporters and staff to remain neutral on political issues.

I can’t tell the difference can you? The fact they’re even considering this is reason enough to shut it all down.

Cutting CBC would give twice

Cutting government spending is almost always beneficial but new Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre’s proposal to eliminate the CBC’s public funding is doubly so. Many other government-run institutions are so blatantly inefficient and do so badly that there is at least the silver lining that they sow public skepticism about further government expansion. The CBC is also inefficient and does badly but it is in the business of pushing stories and promoting ideas, and the ideas it promotes are those favouring government expansion. As Milton Friedman wrote, “Any institution will tend to express its own values and its own ideas … A socialist institution will teach socialist values.”

How many times have we heard conservative politicians rally the faithful with cries of “Defund The CBC?” Yet it never comes to pass. Why is that?

The CBC was once vital to maintaining the façade of democracy that kept we proles in check.

CBC became part of the permanent political class that governs us. 

But few watch it anymore if the ratings are to be believed. 

Trudeau’s handlers understood the CBC’s diminished reach and brought the rest of Canada’s media on board with subsidies’.

Will Poilievre defund or even cut back the CBC? We’ll see but I wouldn’t bet on it.

And I will want to know why he changed his mind.

Majority of Conservative voters support defunding the CBC — but not attacks on media

A clear majority of Conservative supporters strongly support taking public funds away from the CBC — but fewer support attacks on journalists, a Mainstreet poll suggests.

Several prominent Conservatives, including leader Pierre Poilievre and former leader Erin O’Toole, have called for deeply cutting or completely defunding the CBC.

In 2021, government grants made up about 60 per cent of the CBC’s revenue.

The distance remains short enough that the prime minister can give the CRTC a slap across the head, if he has a mind (a statement, not a question).

But he has a combined 9.4 million subscribers and followers on YouTube and Twitter, many of whom are young people, like Brown was when he got pushed in Shapiro’s direction.

They do suffer from a mental disorder and the CBC is a dangerous enabler attempting to criminalize dissent. Why are our tax dollars supporting gender extremists on CBC?

CBC Has Nervous Breakdown! Convoy donors gave more than $460K to CPC leadership race — and many were first-time federal donors

Canadians who donated to the Ottawa convoy protest contributed more than $460,000 to Conservative leadership candidates — and many of them were donating to a federal political party for the first time — an analysis by CBC News shows.

A comparison of donations to Conservative leadership contenders up to Aug. 1 with the GiveSendGo crowdfunding campaign for the convoy protest found over 3,100 people who contributed to both campaigns, based on identical combinations of names and postal codes.

The lion’s share of convoy donors’ leadership campaign donations went to Pierre Poilievre’s campaign.

OMG! Convoy supporters donated! And many were 1st time donors! That must be against the law!

The CBC is about to get WAY worse

The CBC is about to get 30% more woke thanks to new requirements imposed on them by the Canadian Radio‑television and Telecommunications (CRTC). The CBC will now have to dedicate 30% of its English-language programming to woke causes such as promoting “racialized” voices,” “disabled voices” and language minorities. Quebec’s Conservative party surges in the polls as some of its candidates spread conspiracy theories

 

“… The surge in popularity for Duhaime’s party comes as conservative libertarians across the country, at both the provincial and federal levels, are feeling emboldened by frustrations at pandemic restrictions.

Recent polling suggests anti-mandate libertarians, at both the federal and provincial levels, are attracting support of Canadians who are distrustful not just of government regulations, but of scientific authorities, mainstream media outlets and democratic institutions in general.

… A recent study, based on polling data, found that 50 per cent of the party’s supporters were either “convinced” or “moderate” adherents of conspiracy theories.

Among Quebec Liberal supporters, 31 per cent were classified as conspiracy theorists and so were 29 per cent of Parti Québécois supporters.

Distrustful of government regulations? That just being prudent. The government is never your friend said a wise lady I know.

Distrustful of Scientific authorities? Would they be the ones who tampered with the Alzheimer studies? Or the ones who with Big Pharma pushed meds for depression when no proof of their efficacy has been established?

Distrustful of Media! Thanks for the laugh CBC.

Distrustful of democratic institutions in general? This from the same CBC that ran with the Russia Collusion hoax for literally years?

Harper passes the Populist-conservative torch to Poilievre and he talks to Jews warns CBC

In practice, populism often seems more bent on finding scapegoats than offering solutions

Stephen Harper has said the Conservative government he led from 2006 to 2015 practiced what he calls “populist conservatism.” A Conservative Party led by Pierre Poilievre — endorsed by Harper this week — will fully embrace that description.

One can only speculate about why the former prime minister decided to take the unusual step of endorsing a candidate in the current leadership race — and why he chose to do so now. Maybe the Poilievre campaign has some reason to believe it needs an extra push to get over the line.

I found the CBC’s photo selection and accompanying caption an odd choice. There must be thousands of pics the CBC has access to but why choose this one? A random pick or a subtle message sent to fellow travelers that Harper and hence Poilievre not only support Israel but Harper has had dealings with the dread AIPAC… the feared “Jewish Lobby.”
