HonestReporting Canada is pleased to share that, subsequent to a complaint we lodged with CBC last year regarding an anti-Israel segment that their radio program “Unforked” broadcast, Ombudsman Jack Nagler upheld our complaint and recognized that the episode violated their Journalistic Standards and Practices.
In a report dated March 23, 2022, Ombudsman Nagler responded to our complaint about a July 5 episode of “Unforked,” a show which describes itself as “Picking apart the food that we eat to reveal the culture and politics baked into it,” which covered the topic of “gastronationalism” and hummus, the beloved chickpea dish enjoyed by peoples throughout the Middle East and around the world.

Critics are calling on the federal government to introduce new rules for online fundraising campaigns after a fundraiser for this weekend’s protest in Ottawa against vaccine mandates raised millions of dollars — in part from anonymous donors and people using fictitious names.
Green Party parliamentary leader Elizabeth May said the GoFundMe fundraiser for the protest convoy raises concerns about whether such campaigns could be used by big businesses or foreign state actors to circumvent Canada’s political financing rules.
“If this isn’t worrying, it certainly exposes a possibility that is very worrying, which is that you can be not a political organization, not registered with Elections Canada but find the right kind of dog whistle and put up a GoFundMe campaign,” she said.

Or why our pop culture radio show’s coverage of the Dave Chappelle Netflix special failed to include any of the legions of fans, or comics, that did not find it offensive. Or why, exactly, taxpayers should be funding articles that scold Canadians for using words such as “brainstorm” and “lame.”

Advertising revenues at the CBC fell again last year. According to Mother Corp’s annual report, recently tabled in Parliament, ad sales were down from $220 million in 2019 to just under $199 million in 2020, a drop of about 10% in one year.
On top of that, CBC’s share of prime-time viewers fell by 2%, despite the fact locked-down Canadians watched more TV than ever before during the pandemic. At any given time during prime viewing hours (8 to 11 p.m.), just 5% of Canadians are watching our state broadcaster.

You Can’t Say That On Television (In Canada)
When I was a kid, there was a Canadian TV show called, “You can’t do that on television.” It was on in the United States thanks to Nickelodeon, if I remember correctly. The odds are high that you don’t remember the show or never heard of it. Either way, it is responsible for the introduction of “green slime,” the gross stuff poured on countless heads in the decades since. On the show, at any point during any of the skits, if someone said, “I don’t know” they had a bucket of slime dumped on them. If the show were on now, there are a whole host of words the leftists running the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) would not only slime you over, they’d cancel you for the rest of your life.
