Ombudsman Alexander Jeglic found a number of contracts exhibiting a troubling pattern of favouritism towards WE. These contracts were dated prior to the government’s controversial decision to award the charity a $43.5 million pandemic grant to oversee the $912 million federal Summer Student Service Grant, which was ultimately axed following public outcry.

This could have given the Kielburgers a competitive advantage over other organizations that might also be interested in bidding.
On at least one occasion, Jeglic found, department officials suggested to WE an amount it might bid that could beat out any rivals.
And on another occasion, the ombudsman appears to have found that the cost of a contract awarded to WE was established after the charity had been given the deal.”
Liberal MPs Karen McCrimmon, Adam Vaughan and Will Amos said Sunday they will not run again in the next federal election.
McCrimmon has served as parliamentary secretary to several ministers since her election in Kanata—Carleton in 2015, and is the chair of the parliamentary committee on national defence.

B.C. information and privacy commissioner Michael McEvoy’s office confirmed the investigation today following a complaint from the Canadian Civil Liberties Association.
The Liberals have been using the technology to verify the identity of those eligible to vote in meetings to nominate candidates who will run for the party in the next federal campaign.
Those nomination meetings are normally held in person, but have moved online this summer because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
