Toronto group calls to release alleged Iran proxy who coordinated waves of attacks on Jewish sites

A Toronto activist group called for the US to release the Iranian regime proxy group commander who allegedly helped orchestrate attacks on Jewish, Israeli, and dissident sites and individuals across Europe and North America in the name of Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia (HAYI), in a Thursday statement.

Al-Ahrar Palestinian Prisoner Support called for the immediate release of Kataib Hezbollah commander Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, who had been extradited and charged by the US Department of Justice on May 15 for various terrorism offenses related to 18 attacks.

The Canada-based organization called on activists and organizations to act against the “violent move” by the US, rejecting his criminalization and describing his attacks as legitimate wartime actions.

Honda just issued a warning about its future in Canada. That could inadvertently hand a win to Chinese EV makers

One of Ontario’s biggest and most reliable automakers is warning Canadians not to take its presence here for granted.

“Companies don’t automatically keep building vehicles in the same country just because it’s always been that way,” Honda Canada president Dave Jamieson told an industry summit convened by the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association in Vaughan this week.

It wasn’t a throwaway line. Jamieson spent almost his entire speech — one of his first since taking the job last year — making the case that Canada is at a policy crossroads that could determine whether his company keeps investing in its manufacturing base in Alliston, Ont.

OTTAWA — Liberal MP Yvan Baker says his proposal to create a Somali Heritage Month in Canada is intended to recognize contributions made by immigrant communities, responding to criticism that emerged after the bill was introduced in Parliament.

Baker’s Bill C-283, which received first reading this week, would designate July as Somali Heritage Month.

Russia calls Canada a ‘warmonger’ for new drone deal with Ukraine

OTTAWA — Moscow is calling Canada a “warmonger” for signing a drone-production deal with Ukraine and is vowing to publish the address of a Canadian company working with Kyiv.

Two weeks ago, Ottawa announced a corporate partnership between Canadian and Ukrainian drone makers that could see drones made in Canada deployed to Ukraine’s front line.

The deal involves Ukrainian company Airlogix and Canadian drone maker Sentinel R&D, which is based in Hamilton, Ont.

Scrap China EV deal, auto group says in push to focus on U.S.

Diversification beyond the U.S. automobile market is “not an option” for Canada and Ottawa should scrap a trade deal with China that is seeing Chinese electric vehicles enter the Canadian market, a group representing three of the biggest U.S. automakers in Canada said on Tuesday.

The standing committee on international trade in the House of Commons heard from Brian Kingston, the president of the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers Association, a group that represents the operations of Ford, General Motors and Stellantis in Canada.

US adds China EV manufacturer BYD to list of firms with alleged Chinese military ties

The US has added several major firms from China, including e-commerce giant Alibaba and electric car maker BYD, to a list of companies said to have ties with the Chinese military.

The Department of Defense’s list aims to alert American organisations to the risks of doing business with the Chinese firms, but their inclusion does not mean they are immediately sanctioned.

The Chinese embassy in the US told the BBC the list was “discriminatory” and said firms from China have strictly complied with the laws abroad.

This should make Carney happy.
