TAIPEI, TAIWAN—The Canadian federal government and Canadian consumers should be wary of continuing to import Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) in its trade deal with China, says the head of a Taiwanese think tank focusing on Taiwanese government policy and relations with China.
“You do not want your land vehicles to be controlled by [China] and weaponized by them,” I-Chung Lai—The Prospect Foundation president and the former director general of both international affairs and China affairs—told The Hub during a foreign press tour event at the think tank’s headquarters in Taipei. “That threat needs to be taken very seriously.”
