A Trump adviser’s outburst and a new poll suggest Canada’s tariff strategy is landing

WASHINGTON, D.C. — If Canada is betting that Trump’s tariff fight and Ottawa’s retaliation will exact political costs on U.S. President Donald Trump and Republicans in November’s midterms, it may be onto something: a senior Trump adviser just signalled that the White House sees the Canada-U.S. trade spat as politically sensitive.

Speaking at an economic conference in Washington on Tuesday, Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro had a few choice words for Canada. He likened the country to a rowboat and the U.S. to an aircraft carrier before asking whether any Canadians were in the room.

In what the media is hailing as some sort of stunning achievement, the Mamdani administration released an antisemitism policy. This booklet mostly consists of setting up various groups to hold meetings and some security funding for synagogues.

Of course security funding would be much less needed if Mamdani didn’t insist on allowing Muslim and Marxist hate rallies outside synagogues. That’s the equivalent of legalizing arson and then funding some smoke detectors.

The gang rape on a migrant boat

On 16 September, 65 migrants were rescued from the Atlantic off the coast of Spain. Three dead bodies were also recovered. Just eight of the surviving migrants were female. Lanzarote emergency services have reported that one of these women was gang-raped by her fellow passengers during the perilous journey. Three men, aged 21, 25 and 30, have since been arrested in connection with the attack.

Trump says ‘very bad’ Canada is being ‘taught a little lesson’ as trade action escalates

U.S. President Donald Trump’s war of words with Canada continued Wednesday as he veered off a prepared script at an event marking Hispanic Heritage Month in the States to chastise Canadian leaders for being what he called “very bad.”

Speaking at the White House, Trump said the U.S. was “stupidly run” before he got the job because past leaders allowed automakers to move assembly plants offshore, including to Canada.

‘Jihadist’ pilot stabbed co-pilot and tried to crash Flydubai plane before hero crew and passenger broke into cockpit and overpowered him, preventing ‘Israeli 9/11’

A flight bound for Israel was forced into an emergency landing after one pilot allegedly attacked another in a suspected hijacking attempt before being overpowered by passengers.

Flydubai flight FZ1073 was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv when the cockpit brawl broke out, with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu claiming the attacker was trying to crash the plane after stabbing the other pilot.

Stelco’s U.S. owner to face ‘fullest extent of the law’ over layoffs: PM Carney

Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada’s federal government will “use all powers that we have” against the U.S. owner of an Ontario steel plant that announced hundreds of layoffs on Monday.

Stelco, owned by Ohio-based Cleveland-Cliffs, directly linked its plan to cut up to 500 jobs in Hamilton with U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war with Canada.

The Trump administration imposed 50 per cent tariffs on foreign steel under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act last year. Canada has retaliated with duties on many U.S.-made steel products.
