Documentary: The ‘anti-Semitic rot’ at the heart of the NHS

A nurse was given a Nazi salute by an NHS colleague after he discovered that she was Jewish, an investigation has revealed.

The incident is one example of a catalogue of anti-Semitic abuse allegedly suffered by Jewish patients and workers in the health service.

The Campaign Against Antisemitism said its investigation, detailed in a new documentary, exposed “the anti-Semitic rot at the heart of our NHS”.

I had the good fortune in my youth to have been fairly well travelled, and trips to Mexico had shown me how well I had it as a kid growing up in Canada. In Guatemala, though, I got to see a different level of poverty and suffering in a nation where the government was the prime cause of it.

Sometimes the reporting on artificial intelligence makes it sound as though its chief threat is to the jobs of assembly line workers, law library clerks, and, someday, maybe truck drivers. Those certainly are trends. You could say that AI’s “entry level job” was to displace entry-level workers. That probably has some truth if we are dealing with sheer numbers, but it should not imply that AI is merely advancing up the workplace ladder from the bottom rung.

Sisters Alicia and Christie Duncan were originally only granted 48 hours notice that their mother was going to be euthanised.

It was Sunday, October 24, 2021, when 61-year-old Donna confessed to her family that she had been approved for Canada’s assisted-dying programme, officially known as Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD).

Her death was scheduled for the following Tuesday – expedited due to her having qualified for Canada’s streamlined ‘Track 1’ pathway, reserved for individuals whose natural death is reasonably foreseeable.

Canada’s 9-8-8 suicide prevention helpline has received more than 1 million calls and text messages since its launch in late 2023. That averages out to more than 300,000 per year.

Yet under current law, Canada is set to expand euthanasia, or medical assistance in dying (MAID), to people with mental illness as their sole underlying condition beginning March 17, 2027. If that expansion happens, some will be deemed worthy of suicide assistance while others will receive suicide prevention.

Sey is a retired gymnast and author who founded XX-XY Athletics, an apparel brand whose ‘mission is to empower female athletes and take a stand for fair competition.’ The company claims to be ‘for everyone who believes in the transformative power of sport and the need for safety and fairness.’

XX-XY’s stance has put Sey at the forefront of the fight over the inclusion of transgender athletes in women’s sports, which has engulfed the WNBA in particular in recent months.

GUNTER: Trade war booze ban could backfire on Canada

As satisfying as it is to be “Elbows Up” against U.S. President Donald Trump in the current Canada-U.S. trade war, it might be a tad counterproductive.

As I have written before, it might be more effective to break our dependence on trade with America by building pipelines west and east to get our oil and natural gas to European and Asian markets. It would also be a tremendous boost if provinces reduced internal barriers to trade.

Yeah, elections sure do have consequences. Given the moribund state of the Republican Party in New York City, two socialists, Darializa Avila-Chevalier and Claire Valdez, are virtually certain to enter the House of Representatives next January, and they’re already excitedly making plans for the damage they’re going to do to the nation’s largest city, and the nation as a whole, once they get there.
