West Point defends controversial KKK plaque dedicated in 1965 that ‘documents both tragedy and triumph in our nation’s history’

The West Point military academy has defended a controversial 1965 bronze plaque depicting a Ku Klux Klan member, saying it is part of America’s history.

The plaque was recommended to be removed by the Naming Commission, an agency tasked with reviewing and changing military assets that memorialize Confederate figures.

Drama queens: the return of Meghan and Harry

We’ve all spent months bracing ourselves for what our leaders assure us will be a dreadful winter. As the weather turns, we can look forward to ruinous energy bills, runaway inflation, collapsing health services, strikes, blackouts, more strikes, violent crime, and perhaps even – why not? – a nuclear war with Russia.

As if that weren’t bad enough, Meghan and Harry are back, wafting over all the way from Montecito, California on billowy clouds of bonkers publicity, self-pity and self-help mumbo-jumbo.

The elite’s green fantasies are finally unravelling

The desperate scramble for fossil fuels now makes the posturing of COP26 look almost otherworldly.

As the mother of all energy crises starts to bite, with fears of energy rationing, fuel poverty and blackouts looming on the horizon, we might just be starting to see a flicker of self-awareness, the tiniest recognition of reality, coming from the UK’s green political class.

Seven Dead Doctors in 14 Days Don’t Lie

Does this seem normal to you?

Have you ever heard of seven doctors dead in a 14-day period (from July 13 through July 28)? How about five dead doctors in a few days, in one city (Toronto)? How about 14 dead doctors in the past nine months? And these dead doctors were mostly YOUNG.

Do these headlines catch your attention? Because they’re all true. Confirmed. Fact. It all just happened in Canada, a small country of 30 million (one-tenth the size of America).

The Mysteries of Long COVID

When the original strain of COVID-19 arrived in spring 2020, a pandemic soon swept the country.

By far most survived COVID. But hundreds of thousands did not. American deaths now number well over 1 million.

Amid the tragedy, there initially was some hope that the pernicious effects of the disease would all disappear upon recovery among the nearly 99% who survived the initial infection.

A volleyball player’s hate crime accusation falls apart

Where is the evidence of Duke’s Rachel Richardson being racially abused during a game?

Duke University volleyball player Rachel Richardson claimed that she was the target of racial slurs during a match against Brigham Young University this past weekend — but her story seems to have less evidence than the rape allegations once leveled against members of her school’s lacrosse team.
It was actually Lesa Pamplin, Richardson’s godmother, who first made the accusation on Twitter. She claimed that Richardson was called the N-word “every time she served. She was threatened by a white male that told her to watch her back going to the team bus. A police officer had to be put by their bench.”

Pierre Poilievre needs to cool down his angry mob before someone gets hurt — or worse whines Star

Barring a miracle, Pierre Poilievre will easily win the federal Conservative leadership race when the party announces the voting results on Sept. 10.

He’ll have won largely by reinforcing his image as a political attack dog, exploiting voters’ fears and anger, fuelling citizen rage, and tacitly emboldening the extremists in his party and the anarchists in our society with cynical promises to restore their “freedoms.”

It’s a strategy straight out of the successful — and sleazy — campaign playbook of Donald Trump.

Ottawa cannot admit to the terribly damaging consequences of its green policies and the urgent need to fundamentally change course

Joe Oliver: Trudeau’s growing isolation on fossil fuels

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should be feeling isolated in his campaign against fossil fuels, especially Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), as leaders around the world reduce their countries’ reliance on inadequate renewable energy and tone down their own rhetoric about lowering GHG emissions. But for political and ideological reasons his government cannot admit to the terribly damaging consequences of its green policies and the urgent need to fundamentally change course. To the contrary, it keeps doubling down on its climate obsession.

German civil servants investigated over ‘spying for Russia’

Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV)

Germany’s domestic intelligence agency is investigating allegations that two senior civil servants working in the economy ministry could have been spying for Russia, according to a local media report.

Die Zeit, which first revealed the case, said the officials being investigated had close involvement with energy supply issues and held key positions.

The economy ministry and the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), the country’s domestic intelligence agency, would not comment on the reports. The economy ministry would only say that it was in continual dialogue with the BfV, and that the ministry found itself “under particular focus” due to its work tackling the energy crisis.

New documents reveal the federal government’s role in Twitter’s censorship decisions.

Last month, Covid vaccine skeptic Alex Berenson was allowed back on Twitter after being “permanently” suspended for allegedly violating the platform’s Covid-19 “misinformation” policy. Remarkably, Twitter acknowledged that his tweets “should have not led” to his suspension.

Now, new internal Twitter documents publicized by Berenson reveal that the Biden administration likely played a pivotal role in his suspension. As a Twitter employee reported on the company’s internal Slack messaging system, the company faced “one really tough question about why Alex Berenson hasn’t been kicked off from the platform” in an April 2021 White House meeting. Another employee reported that Andy Slavitt, senior adviser to President Biden’s Covid response team, claimed that he had seen evidence indicating that Berenson was “the epicenter of disinfo that radiated outwards to the persuadable public.”

Tech tool offers police ‘mass surveillance on a budget’

Local law enforcement agencies from suburban Southern California to rural North Carolina have been using an obscure cellphone tracking tool, at times without search warrants, that gives them the power to follow people’s movements months back in time, according to public records and internal emails obtained by The Associated Press

Police have used “Fog Reveal” to search hundreds of billions of records from 250 million mobile devices, and harnessed the data to create location analyses known among law enforcement as “patterns of life,” according to thousands of pages of records about the company.
