LILLEY: Don’t cry for CBC as they drop ‘Hockey Night in Canada’

If you were to listen to Liberal MPs, and to CBC, Canadians just won’t be able to watch hockey come the new NHL season. In reality, hockey is just returning to being broadcast solely on the private sector stations that initially aired the games before CBC stole it all.

As of this fall, if you want to watch most NHL games in Canada, you will need to subscribe to cable or directly to Sportsnet, owned by Rogers.

I’m no fan of today’s CBC but back when I followed hockey HNIC was a regular part of my life.

There’s room for nostalgia of the CBC that used to be.

Judge Rules Biden Must Release Ghostwriter Recordings to Conservative Group

A federal judge has ruled that redacted recordings of President Biden’s conversations with his ghostwriter must be released to the conservative Heritage Foundation, dealing a blow to Mr. Biden’s efforts to keep the materials private.U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich, who was nominated by President Trump in 2017, found on Friday that the public interest in the material outweighed Mr. Biden’s privacy concerns. The ruling followed a Freedom of Information Act request filed by the Heritage Foundation seeking records from an investigation by a former special counsel, Robert Hur, into Mr. Biden’s handling of classified materials after his time as vice president.

Comparison to Hitler, Mao, Stalin? Trump says: ‘Sounds good to me!’

Donald Trump has enthusiastically agreed with a public assessment by a man he met while golfing that the “overwhelming difference” between the current US president and historical figures who incited fear – such as Attila the Hun, Genghis Khan, Napoleon, Stalin, Mao and Hitler – is that Trump is more powerful.

Premier Doug Ford drowned out by chanting, booing mob of usual suspects bussed into Ford Fest

Remarks by Premier Doug Ford at his annual summer bash, Ford Fest, were drowned out Friday evening by an eruption of booing, blowing whistles and chanting from protesters making plain their grievances over a host of issues.

People dressed in purple OPSEU shirts, bearing the slogan “Worth Fighting For” which was also their chant, were peppered among a sea of Ford Nation supporters in the half-hour leading up to the premier’s appearance that the master of ceremonies kept referring to as “the big event” throughout the evening at Thomson Memorial Park in Scarborough.

In Trump’s shadow, Vance becomes face of Iran deal

As he defended the US-Iran deal at the White House press briefing on Thursday, Vice-President JD Vance brushed aside a question about whether President Donald Trump had positioned him as the “fall guy” for an agreement that is broadly unpopular with Republicans in Washington.

“I think the president was joking,” Vance said, referring to Trump’s comment the previous day that he might blame the vice-president if the deal collapses.

Canadians will pay up to $3,348 this year on government debt interest, study finds

A new study from the Fraser Institute says that every Canadian this year will pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars to service the interest on federal and provincial debt, with Newfoundlanders and Manitobans paying the most, and Albertans the least.

“For more than a decade, deficit spending and growing government debt have become a trend for many Canadian governments,” says the report, authored by Jake Fuss, director of Fiscal Studies at the Fraser Institute. “In 2025/26, the federal government and all ten provinces are projected to record deficits.”

Police investigating carers’ role in toddler crocodile incident

Police are investigating the role of a vulnerable adult’s carers in an incident in which a three-year-old boy was thrown into a zoo’s crocodile pit.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary officers are understood to be assessing the two carers’ actions after the 30-year-old man was left free to pick up the child and throw him into the enclosure.

The boy, who was rescued by a heroic zookeeper, is in a critical but stable condition in hospital. He suffered serious injuries in the fall and was attacked by at least one crocodile.

Mongillo paid StubHub, a scalper resale website, $1,700 Cdn in August 2025 for two tickets, figuring she was getting a deal for a game in New Jersey on June 13. Americans, Swedes, and New Zealanders have been given free accommodation and taxpayer-funded benefits in Britain after claiming asylum, despite coming from some of the safest and wealthiest countries in the Western world.

New Home Office figures show that 245 migrants from the European Union, the United States, and other developed Western nations were living in state-funded accommodation as of March while their asylum claims were being processed.
