U.S. Intel Finds Putin Could Test NATO’s Resolve With Limited Incursion
WASHINGTON—Russian President Vladimir Putin could try to test NATO’s resolve with a limited assault on an allied country in the next few years, according to new U.S. intelligence reports that posit possible scenarios ranging from a cyberattack to a small-scale land incursion.
The assessments, described by U.S. officials, come amid a shortfall in certain critical munitions that the military would need to confront Russia or China in a potential future war. The U.S. has severely degraded its stockpile of these weapons because of transfers to Ukraine after Russia’s invasion, as well as the U.S. conflict with Iran. Stockpiles at risk include long-range Precision Strike Missiles and Army Tactical Missile Systems, as well as short-range Stinger surface-to-air missiles, other officials said.
No problem, Carney will have us allied with China.

Restaurants, pubs and theatres ban Meta’s ‘spy glasses’ over privacy fears
When Meta used superstar Kylie Jenner to promote its sleek new line of “spy glasses”, the social media company hoped the devices would reach the same broad acceptance that tablets and smartwatches have found before them.
But those plans have hit a snag in the UK, where venues from elite restaurants to popular pub chains have banned the £359 glasses in order to preserve the privacy of customers and staff.
Celebrated restaurateur Jeremy King, owner of London venues including Simpsons in the Strand, Arlington and The Park, said guests should not wear the recording glasses.
Carney government restores health coverage it had cut for so called refugees
OTTAWA — The Carney government has quietly walked back some of its cuts to a program providing temporary health-care coverage to refugees and asylum-seekers, months after slashing benefits for some of Canada’s most vulnerable newcomers.
Earlier this year, following a budget pledge to lower funding, Ottawa introduced changes to the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP), which provides health care to resettled refugees and asylum claimants who are waiting to qualify for provincial or territorial insurance.
Beginning in May, most people eligible for the program were required to pay 30 per cent of costs for health services, assistive devices and medical supplies that had previously been covered, along with $4 for prescription medication and refills.

Canada prepared to halt booze bans, meet other U.S. demands in exchange for tariff relief: sources
The Canadian government is preparing to meet some U.S. demands — including ending bans on American alcohol sales — as trade talks heat up ahead of the latest tariff deadline, according to sources.
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened a new 50 per cent levy on hundreds of Canadian imports by Aug. 19, citing complaints about provincial booze bans, dairy import quotas and the auto tariffs.
The Canadian side is willing to offer movement on those concerns, according to industry sources with knowledge of the negotiations. The Globe and Mail first reported on possible concessions.
Here’s the Original Globe Story – Ottawa discussing trade concessions with the U.S. in return for some tariff relief, sources say
Canada and the U.S. are discussing a prospective deal in which Ottawa would agree to a long list of Trump administration trade demands in exchange for some relief on sectoral tariffs, as talks intensify ahead of another round of threatened American levies.
According to three industry sources with knowledge of the negotiations, the two sides have discussed in-depth proposals and traded written bargaining positions, but an agreement has not yet been reached. The Globe and Mail granted the sources anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the talks.
This ought to fun … agreeing to Washington’s interpretation of how dairy quotas should be allocated.

JAY GOLDBERG: Ottawa bet against fossil fuels and lost
“There will come a day, far off but inevitable at some point, when traditional energy sources will no longer be needed,” said former prime minister Justin Trudeau in 2017.
Politicians across the Western Hemisphere, including Canada’s leadership for at least the past decade, have bought into the notion that a massive transition away from fossil fuels is underway and that the end of their use is somehow preordained.
