This fall the IMO holds a final vote on its carbon tax . ICAO’s requirement to purchase carbon offsets for emissions from international flights becomes mandatory in January.
The British jihadi bride who recruited Shamima Begum into ISIS has been arrested in Syria after being linked to a terror attack in Germany, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.
Sharmeena Begum, now 27, who left her east London home for Syria as a schoolgirl in December 2014, was traced after German police investigating July’s Berlin Pride attack found she had exchanged messages with knife-man Abdul Ballout.
He is understood to have sent Sharmeena – no relation to her former schoolmate Shamima – a video of himself swearing his oath of allegiance to ISIS, which she was allegedly meant to pass to the group’s propaganda chief for release online after the attack.

Canada’s largest internet providers have been ordered to block websites operated by anonymous anti-Israel activists targeting Indigo Books & Music Inc. for the next two years, according to a Federal Court ruling.
Justice Janet Fuhrer granted the long-term blocking order after Indigo spent years pursuing activists behind websites that copied the bookseller’s branding and accused the company and CEO Heather Reisman of complicity in Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Islamic finance is usually presented to Western audiences in reassuring terms. Muslims, we are told, are forbidden to pay or receive interest. Conventional mortgages therefore exclude observant Muslims from home ownership. Islamic finance provides an ethical alternative based on shared risk, responsible investment and interest-free banking. But is this true, and is it right?
Islamic finance is not simply ordinary banking with the interest removed. It is finance intended to comply with Sharia and presented as Sharia-compliant, requiring Islamic authorities to determine what is permitted, how transactions must be structured, which businesses may receive investment, and whether individual financial products meet Islamic requirements. Whether the resulting products actually conform to those principles is another question.
