The federal Liberals’ policy of joining allies in punishing Israel, without providing any constructive solutions for bringing peace to the Middle East, continued apace on Tuesday, when Foreign Minister Anita Anand, along with her counterparts from several European countries, issued a joint statement pledging to “bring forward national measures to ban trade” in goods originating from Israeli settlements.
Ukraine’s prosecutor general has resigned after investigators used ladders to raid his office in connection with a major corruption scandal that threatens to embarrass Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Ruslan Kravchenko quit his post on Monday after allegations that some of his officials were involved in large-scale money laundering. They received cash to protect call centres involved in illegal phone scams, it was claimed.
Kravchenko, who denies wrongdoing, left his job after meeting Zelenskyy. Ukraine’s president also spoke to the heads of Nabu and Sapo, the two anti-corruption agencies that have uncovered a sprawling criminal scheme involving government officials.
The Carney government wants to double Canada’s exports to countries other than the United States by 2035 to help reduce dependence on the U.S. market and deepen Canadian trade and commercial ties with other economies. The idea commands significant public support. Canada faces a volatile mercantilist president determined to dismantle much of the architecture governing the global economy and upend America’s longstanding trade relationships.
At around eight on Saturday evening a friend called and told me to switch on Sky News to watch its coverage of the demonstration in Dover, where more than 100 men – dressed in black and wearing balaclavas – could be seen marching through the streets to protest against illegal migration, the only sound an occasional chant of ‘Stop the boats’.
As it happens, I had already seen the footage she was referring to but I was shocked by her reaction to it: ‘At last, someone is finally speaking out for us.’
The reason I was taken aback is that she’s a mum of three in her fifties who runs her own successful hair salon – someone I’d never describe as a Right-wing head banger, or a racist, or any of the other terms the Left uses to condemn anyone who supports such protests.

Mayor Olivia Chow also spoke at Tuesday’s news conference and addressed what she said has been a “despicable” rise in antisemitism in Toronto.
“Jewish Torontonians should not need police presence to go to a synagogue or a community centre, or simply to live proudly Jewish in our city but they do. In this moment of emboldened antisemitism, Jews, Jewish institutions and even Jewish neighbourhoods are being targeted,” she said.

Lonnie Bunch, the secretary of the Smithsonian Institution who led its leftward degradation, resigned Tuesday after years of overseeing the advancement of anti-American propaganda at the nation’s premier art, culture, and history establishment.
Bunch, who took over as secretary in 2019 but has been at the Smithsonian for almost 38 years, founded the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture prior to becoming secretary. Under his leadership, the Smithsonian added to its insidious track record of partitioning its museums along racial and gender ideology lines. He plans to leave the Smithsonian by the end of the year, according to the resignation announcement.
The federal Conservatives have apparently decided that Alberta needs another lecture about Canada.
Parkland MP Dane Lloyd has launched Conservatives for Canada, specifically targeting Alberta voters ahead of October 19.
“The answer is not for Alberta to leave Canada,” Lloyd says. “The answer is change in Ottawa.”

The pressure on British taxpayers to start coughing up money to fund reparations for the historic enslavement of Africans by some of their ancestors is mounting. In February, the African Union adopted a resolution proposed by its champion for reparations and Ghana’s president, John Dramani Mahama, which identifies slavery as a crime against humanity. In March, the UN General Assembly passed Ghana’s resolution describing transatlantic chattel slavery as ‘the gravest crime against humanity’ and calling for reparations as ‘a concrete step towards remedying historical wrongs’. While 123 states supported it, only three (Argentina, Israel and the US) opposed it, and 52 (including the UK) abstained.
