FREDERICTON – An art gallery in Eastern Canada is leveraging a notorious, damaged photograph of a crucifix floating in urine to spark public discourse — even drawing criticism from a member of Parliament.

The Beaverbrook Art Gallery, located in New Brunswick’s capital Fredericton, is exhibiting American artist Andres Serrano’s controversial piece until the end of November.

It marks the first time the Piss Christ (Immersions), on loan from the Rennie Collection in Vancouver, has been shown in Atlantic Canada.

Trump vows to strike Iran if it doesn’t rein in Hezbollah attacks in Lebanon

President Donald Trump on Sunday issued a warning to Iran that it must stop its proxies from “causing trouble” in Lebanon or Tehran risks being “hit” by the United States.

“Iran must immediately stop their highly paid PROXIES in Lebanon from causing trouble,” Trump said in a Truth Social post. “If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder!!!”

Inuit call on Ottawa to be better partners or they will look abroad

Canada’s national Inuit organization is calling on the federal government to be better partners, saying Canada must respect Inuit rights to governance and self-determination.

Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami wrapped up a two-day Arctic sovereignty conference in Ottawa on Friday.

In a statement following the summit, ITK says it firmly rejects what it calls “outdated, colonial approaches to Arctic policy that repeat Canada’s past mistakes of marginalizing” Inuit.

How about we cut off all funding.

Most Canadians favour return of death penalty for murderers, poll finds

A growing number of Canadians say they support the return of the death penalty in this country for convicted murderers, a new poll has found, although that percentage drops when people are given the opportunity to choose life imprisonment with no chance of parole.

Data from Research Co., a Vancouver-based market research and public opinion polling firm, found that 60 per cent of Canadians said they would support reinstating the death penalty for murder in Canada, a six-point increase compared to when the same question was asked in February 2025. A further 30 per cent said they were opposed (a two-point drop), while 10 per cent were unsure.

Critics slam government plan to ‘bail out’ sagging condo sector in B.C.

B.C. is facing a glut of empty condos. Thousands of Metro Vancouver units are sitting empty and some developers are facing insolvency.

Now, some housing experts are questioning a plan by the federal and provincial governments to buy some of those vacant units and turn them into affordable housing.

They say it amounts to a multi-billion dollar bail out for developers who refuse to lower prices to reflect a sluggish real estate market.

This smells very bad.

US-Iran talks begin in Switzerland as Tehran says it closed Strait of Hormuz

Direct talks between the US and Iran have started in Switzerland, following the Iranian military’s announcement that it has closed the Strait of Hormuz again over Israel’s attacks on southern Lebanon.

Iran also cited a breach of its agreement with the US to end the war as a reason for the closure. However, the US military has said “traffic continues to flow” in the strait.

An Iranian delegation, including parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, arrived in Bürgenstock late on Saturday.

Kevin Klein: Human rights museum can no longer avoid questions over Nakba exhibit

WINNIPEG, Man. — A leading Israeli legal organization is preparing to seek a court injunction to stop the Canadian Museum for Human Rights’ (CMHR’s) planned Nakba exhibit. Correspondence received this week from Joshua Z. Lavine of the Shurat HaDin-Israel Law Center says the centre “is filing an injunction soon.”

The legal step comes after internal emails obtained by the National Post revealed co-ordination between officials at the Winnipeg museum and a representative of the Palestinian Authority on the exhibit’s content and progress.

US fears China has obtained vital AI machine from Europe

The US has raised concerns that Dutch semiconductor giant ASML may have shipped an ultra-high-tech chip-making machine to China.

Howard Lutnick, the US commerce secretary, reportedly held several meetings with ASML executives in which he voiced fears that an extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machine may have ended up in Chinese hands.

This would be a major violation of the US’s export control regime, which bans the transfer of ASML’s EUVs to restricted markets such as China.
